Won't put her weight on one foot

My Genevieve has been punching her feet and trying to "stand up" for a couple months now. But McKenna doesn't even make an attempt. She didn't do it for the doc at the 4 month appointment and he said "Hmm, we'll have to keep an eye on that". Now she still doesn't do it. Occasionally, she will punch down her right foot, but ALWAYS keeps her left foot curled up underneath her. Even if we try to physically straighten her leg and put her foot on the floor, she pulls it right back up. Do you women, with your infinite wisdom, think there is reason for concern? Do you think the pedi might want to refer her to physical therapy if she doesn't "perform" for him at the 6 month appointment (less than two weeks away). Anyone else have a baby who was reluctant to do any whole-body physical activities?

    Thanks for your input!

My first didn't bear weight on his legs at all until he was 8 months old. He walked at 12 months. Emma was on the later side also, around 6 months, I think. She is taking steps, but not walking yet.

my daughter Arwen didn't put any weight on her legs until about 6 months. At about 4.5 months, I got the jumparoo and I swear it helped her to get some real strength in her legs. She could have been the jumping champ in that thing. It was so great to just see her putting weight on her legs. I don't know if it was just that she did it cause that's when she was meant to do it or if the jumparoo really made a difference. She was also on the chunkier side so I don't know if that had any affect on it as well.

I could have written your post! I was just thinking about this today and getting nervous for their 6 month appointment when DD #1 is going to have to "perform". My ped didn't make a big deal out of it at their 4 month appt but still...Just this week, she started putting a little more weight on her legs but she's still not doing it nearly as much as her sister. However, she also has a more laid back personality, so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it.
    Keep us updated!

I wouldn't start to worry, either! My DD hates to do anything "physical". She would much rather be held. For the longest time she would "stand" on the top of her toes...ouch! Now, she will stand on the bottoms of her feet. (she is almost 9 months) Her brother has been standing for a long time. They each develop differently and it is so hard not to compare them.

I agree with the pp, you could get her an exersaucer or jumperoo to get her moving. Do not worry about it...I am the biggest worry wort in the world and I am telling not to worry too much...She will be just fine. If you keep worrying, do what I do, tell your pediatrician you are concerned...they are there for you!!! Never hesitate - especially if it is going to make you stressed out all the time. Let us know how it is going.

Same thing here with Annika! She wouldn't do much even at her 6mo exam. The pedi said if she didn't start doing it more in the next few weeks, she'd want to take another look.

A few weeks have gone by and she's much more active on her feet now. It's a relief.

As for the one leg thing, I don't know.

My boy can, my girl ... well, a tiny bit. I have pictures of my oldest at 6 months, standing on her legs ... and she didn't walk until 14 1/2 months. My twin girl she's already on hands and knees, something her sister didn't start doing at 9 months ...

They're just keeping me on my toes I guess!
