Wives tale- heartbeat rate and sex

When I was at my clinic yesterday they listened to the twins heartbeats, and as they have typically been since the first u/s they are in the 160 ish range. My Mom is insisting that a high hearbeat indicates a girl while a lower one is a boy.

What does everyone think about this?
Does anyone have any history of having a low hb and then finding out it's a girl?

My first two singleton pregnancies had heart rates in the 150's...they were both girls! Now I'm expecting two more girls and the other day, the heart rates were 144 and 155. So I'm not a good example for that one.. :D

    It's not true at all.

My DDs h/b was always around 132 ("boy" range).

Now I am pg with two boys and one is in the 120's ("boy" range) and the other is in the 160's ("girl" range).

Just like all the other wive's tales, it has a 50/50 chance of being right... might as well just flip a coin! ;)

It's holding true for me during this pregnancy. Both girls have h/b ranging from 150-160

That old wives tale isn't true for my twinkies! I'm having 2 girls, and one of them has always had a heartbeat around 140 bpm, and the other is in the 160s.

I'm not expecting but.....I have B/G twins and when I was pregnant their heart beats were always within a couple of beats of each other. When I was on the monitor right before my C/S DD was 137 and DS was 136. I also had multiple NST towards the end and still they were almost the same everytime. So I guess you never know.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks. I tried to tell my Mom, that hbs can differ and that is an old wives tale but she really wants two granddaughters.

All of my boys ranged from the 150's to 168. I wish 1 of my 4 could have been a girl, maybe next time!

I think that is the general "rule", but does not always work for everyone. That's what everyone says though.

However, it did happen to be true for all 3 of mine. My oldest DD's was always above 160. Emilie's was always above 160 as well and Trevor's was always below 150. So it did work for all 3 of mine.

But I would not go by that, but that is what the old wives tale says anyway.

I am having b/g twins this time and their heartbeats are almost always the same (inbetween 150-160) so I dont think that that is true.

Mine have all been wrong. And these two, their HB's range 136-150 in the boy range, and they most definatly girls.

My Doc thought he could do that. It was so funny because he was WRONG every time. He'd listen for a heartbeat (even be looking at the U/S) and say, "oh, that's the boy" and it was "the girl".

well with me the girls were both in the high 160's and surprise so was my son ( totally thought we were having another girl)
so I'd say it's not true....
