We're headed to the noggin specialist tomorrow to see about DS's flat head. I was really hoping it wouldn't come to this; but it can't be avoided. I'm still holding out hope that he won't need a helmet; but I think it's just a pipe dream as his head is really quite wompus (technical term). We'll see.....

Good luck. I just came from a noggin appointment to have Annelise's helmet adjusted. We really thought her head was much worse than it really was. You may be surprised. We still opted to the the helmet, but it's not as bad I expected to be. Keep us posted.

    Good luck!

And, I have to say this: when we originally heard Joel might need a helmet, we were really upset and hoped and prayed that he would not need one. And yet, the helmet is the very best thing that has happened for his head!!! He looks SO good now, so much more symmetrical and so very handsome and his head is a thousand times rounder.

We are still battling the torticollis that was the root issue, but I no longer have any worries about his facial asymmetry. My boy looks GOOD!!! :)

Annelise actually seems happier with her helmet on if you can believe it. She cries when it is off, so we have to hurry up and wash it and get it dried well so we can get it back on her ASAP. When her treatment is done we may have a harder time getting her to go without it than we did getting her to wear it in the first place. I have a weird kid. :)

Update--we just got done with the Noggin doc. He wants to wait and see. Finn doesn't have any asymmetry, which was a relief to me. I never saw anything; but I'm their mom--I think they are gorgeous no matter what. Since he sleeps on his tummy now (his choice--not mine :) ), is close to sitting up, prefers tummy time to back time, and doesn't like the swing anymore; they think it will "pop" on its own (that image bothers me a little--it makes me think of that "dent doctor" thing they sell on TV to pull dents out of your car). So they took lots of pictures and measurements, pronounced him mild to moderate (even though his head is really, really flat) and said to bring him back in 6 weeks. If he isn't improving, then we'll talk helmet.

If he ends up needing a helmet, I'm ok with it. Oh, and BethJ, our doctor told us that lots of kids end up preferring helmet-on to helmet-off, so your DD isn't weird. I still hope we don't need one; but I am a bit relieved that the noggin doc agrees with our pedi that he'll probably be fine without intervention. I was really surprised--I thought we'd be helmet-bound for sure (when I say wompus, I mean wompus--even my mom commented on it when she was visiting last weekend, and usually she acts like Finn hung the moon and is the most perfect baby in the universe. She said "Wow, his head really is flat.").

So we will wait and see! Thanks for your well wishes!
