It's a little later than normal for us but I've decided we're going to put up a tree this weekend (DH is skeptical but has agreed to help). I was in JoAnn's the other day and they have big containers of color-coordinated, plastic ornaments for $10 and all of the holiday ribbon is 60% off for making bows. So, I figured I'd take the plunge and see what happens. DH thinks I'm crazy but I really want a tree so if I can take the danger factor out, I think I'll survive the stress. For those who don't know, a superyard fence/putting it on a table/etc. simply will not work for my extreme climbers so the boys will have full access. Oh, and I know without a doubt that they aren't going to just leave it alone.

    GOOD LUCK!

Last year I had my 6-7 ft tree up with the superyard around it and I thought it was working untill the lower half of my tree had no ornaments on it ... This year i bought a 4 ft tree and the shatterproof ornaments and have it on my end table and they have NEVER touched it...... Hopefully sionce they are older they wont touch it ..

    good luck

We're getting one this weekend too.

I went to the dollar store and for $13 got ribbon, a tree topper, and enough ornaments to make a decent, monkey-friendly tree.

DH still has lofty ideas about putting a super yard around it...I just laughed at him. Why don't we just put a big sign on it with a huge, lighted arrow saying "touch me, touch me, touch me!"

Good luck...be sure to report back on how it survived the first 24 hours. ;)

I may even have photos... you never know. You'll have to report back as well.

Ideally, I'd like to put the tree, lights, and tree skirt up while they're sleeping and then put the ornaments on with their help. I don't want them to think they can't touch it at all (because that makes it all the more desirable) and I have some crazy notion that they'll be proud of their work and not want to mess it up. Not going to hold my breath, though...

You know I was really impressed with my kids last year. They weren't quite 2 yet, but we did a big tree and all my ornaments are glass. I explained to them that it's for looking not touching and they actually listened. We had zero problems with them touching it, same thing this year. We only did the superyard their first Christmas when they weren't quite 1 yet.

    You might be pleasantly surprised.

Good luck -- we're also taking the plunge this weekend, but I'm going to try the superyard (will have to retrieve it from the person I handed it down to  ) and see if that helps. We've also been practicing touching things "with just one finger," which they are good about as long as I remind them every 23 seconds.

Last Christmas my boys were *almost* 2 years old and were constantly taking all the ornaments they could reach off the tree. They didn't do any harm...I just had to keep putting the ornaments back on the tree so they could take them off again! They loved the daily game. This year, at almost 3 years old, they had great fun helping me decorate the tree. One boy in particular spent a good half an hour helping me hang up ornaments. He loved it. For the most part they are leaving the tree alone this year. (They are climbers too, but have left the tree alone thank goodness. There are no lights in my living room window, however!) They occasionally move ornaments around on the tree, and there are a couple of favorite (elmo) ornaments they like to swipe off the tree and carry around :) Overall, it has been a very quiet Christmas so far! Oh, and we bought a train that goes around the bottom of the tree this year, and they loovvve it!

It really depends on the kids!! Martin won't stop touching ours! He goes into time out regularly for taking ornaments off. Poor kid :D

Good luck!! We'll be awaiting pics!!
