I went to my hairdresser yesterday, and asked him about my sons' hair. Jack doesn't really need a cut yet, but Nate looks like a thistle-head; he has my fine hair, and it's all over the place. He doesn't have enough hair to buzz, but the ends are starting to look ratty. My hairdresser said he didn't recommend getting their hair cut professionally until they were about 3, and he gave me instructions on how to trim up Nate's ends so they lay nicely and leave some hair up top.

I'm going to be stupid brave and do this on Christmas Eve when I get home from work so he'll look nice for Christmas pictures. If it goes very badly, Nate will be wearing a hat on Christmas morning.

I did it! No hats required. ;)

I saved the trimmings, but his hair is so fine (and it wasn't that long) so there's probably not enough to put a ribbon around. Does anyone know of any cool keepsakes or other ways to preserve the hair?

 WTG Mom!! He's a doll!

Sorry, no cool keepsakes here. Mine had longer hair when I cut it and it's in a ziplock bag. :tease: Good luck!!

    :good: well done!

Danika's hair is also in a tiny little ziploc bag (they had to shave her hair in the NICU to insert an IV. the next time we went in to visit, the nurse was telling us all about her first hair cut & how they had saved her hair for us but then she couldn't find it & was so distraught. at the time, i could have cared less but am thankful now she was eventually able to find the little keepsake). maybe you could put it in a small ziploc bag & then put a ribbon or other decoration on the bag?
