i know the LO's dont spend much time outside in the winter. as it gets colder out, i put the LO's in sweat shirts. do i need to get them winter coats? or do you suggest the onesie-type coat? (not sure what its called, lol).
i feel like they are SO SMUSHED in their infant carriers with even their sweatshirts!

I didnt do coats when they were in the little infant car seats. Just dressed them warm and used blankets. That way once we got into the car and the heat got going I could peel layers off. I found that coats make them overheat and very unhappy.

I never used coats for my boys. I dressed them in layers and used a bundle me in the carseat. It worked really well for us, even when it was 20 below here last winter I would get them dressed for daycare in pants, socks and a shirt, then a sweatshirt/fleece and shoes. Then they would go into the carseat with the bundle me and we would add a hat and mittens. On the very coldest of days I would start the car first and also used a blanket over them when we had to go out and it was fridgid. It worked well becasue they weren't so bundled that the straps on the carseat weren't tight enough.

I loved them so much I am contemplating getting the toddler ones for their bigger carseats, just so we aren't always picking blankets up off the car floor.

I have been wondering the same thing since the weather has started to become more fall-like around here. My LOs are not much older than yours. I think we're going to skip the winter coats this year since they're not going to be out and about much. When they do go outside for walks and such, we'll just use a blanket over their carrier or stroller and a put them in a sweatshirt. You're right...there's not a whole lot of room for extra bulk when they're in their car seats.

It depends on where you live (I'm terrible with those state flags!). When they were little I usually used a blanket over them. But on the coldest days, I did have the one piece suits. I had fleece ones, so they weren't super-bulky & I still used a blanket over them.

Until they are walking (or maybe even later), one-piece snowsuits are better than winter coats. We used the fleece snowsuits from LL Bean that are light enough to fit under the carseat straps. You're not supposed to use anything heavier than that with a carseat anyway -- it's less safe. If the car is cold, you pack extra blankets around the babies once they're already buckled in.

We didn't use them, just blankets covering them and the carrier. Also hats and we put socks on their hands as mittens too:) I'm wondering how this winter will go since they can tear off most of their clothing! although we have an attached garage and can pull right up to the daycare door so they don't spend much time out in the cold anyways:)

I had two of this type of cover. They are warmer though b/c it's thick fleece on the inside. They were wonderful! I've got two that I was going to sell on Craigslist but PM me if you'd like them.

For my first son I used the bundle me and it worked like a charm. It was so much easier to get him in the carseat without having all those layers. He was born in Feb, I would put him in normal clothes in the carrier, stick a hat on his head and throw a blanket in for added warmth.

We too are starting to get "fall-like" days where they start cold and end up warmer so I plan on going to get the bundle me lite and knit caps.
