I've been having BH contractions for months now, I definitely now what they feel like. Sometimes they're worse than other times, which is obviously just my body progressing. However, I'm nervous that I won't know when to actually draw the line and go into the hospital (I'm almost 33 weeks). My doctor says that if I have more than 6 BH's in an hour to go into L&D- but what's the point if they're just so random, won't I know what real contractions are in comparison to BH? I'm afraid that I will be having too many BH's and it's really the real thing..and then I won't go in or something. This might not even make sense. I guess I'm just trying to get a better idea of what to look for..etc.

For example- here's my pattern of contractions for this morning...
    916
    924
    931
    940
    946
    951
    958
    1006
    1011

..the only thing is that they don't feel any different from the ones that I've been getting periodically for the last few weeks.

Oh, I worried about this too, as I never went into spontaneous labour with my DS. All that needs to be said, is:
    You
    Will
    Know.

Oh, hohohoho, will you ever know. Your stream of thought will probably go somethng like this when you feel the first "real" one:

"Wait. Was that...Oh. I think that might be....OH! OW! That hurts. OHHH! OWWW! That REALLY hurts!"

    :D
    Trust me.

When you start contracting like you are, try drinking a full glass of water and laying down on your left side and see if they ease up. If you have been sitting, try standing/walking around....or vice versa. Do the opposite of whatever you are doing right now. Try a warm bath or shower.

If nothing works, you are still contracting....call your ob or head on to l&d. I went in at 34 wks with my dd with contractions every 5-7 mins. By the time I got ready and got to the hospital (40 mins away), the contractions were at 12-15 mins apart. And by the time they monitored me for an hour or so, they had almost stopped completely.

Don't ever feel bad about calling or going in, that's their job, and especially with twins, you don't want to wait too long :)

That being said......yes, real contractions will hurt more, feel more like period cramping down low, possibly into your thighs and back, and when they get bad you won't even be able to talk thru them! ;) But all these BH's could be changing your cervix anyways and especially with twins (and being early), you don't want to wait too long at home! ;)

Thank you very much for that. I've just been to LD so much and I hate going in there, and I'm put at the bottom of the list it seems because everyone else is much more important. I've drank two liters on water and nothing has changed..The pattern of them is anywhere from 5-10 minutes apart. I just don't know. I dont know what to do. I feel like it would be a waste of time if I go in. I know they're BH, so what would be the point if that's all they are?

During the day my ob wants me to call him first and go to his office, maybe you could do that??

Just shake off if they treat you bad, YOU are a patient, NOT a dr, and it's not your job to diagnose this. Even if it's BH it's good to have it in your chart that they are fairly regular, just in case something does happen.

I look at it this way, I'd rather feel a little foolish and go in, than not go in and risk something happening at home....kwim?

Absolutely! Everyone experiences contractions a little differently(my BH's were WAY different than real contractions, but I know some people that have had very little pain with the real thing), so it's better to be safe than sorry. It looks like you had 9 in that one hour. My doc wanted me to call if I had more than 6.

I just went through this last week - I was having 8-10 bh an hour but no pain. I ended up going in and it was nothing - well, OB thinks it was because baby a turned breech. I had them for 24 hours like this and it is so confusing because you read more than 4-6 an hour means you should definitely call. It was frustrating but ended up harmless. I guess not everything is textbook. Always better to call the doctor and check it out.

I'm totally feel the same. See, I have a high tolerance for pain and I have frequent BH. Some take my breath away. Like I feel I just can't breathe! And some are just tightening for a long time. I also have sharp pains down there during some contractions those hurt--fells like im just going to pee my pants!! sorry TMI. But they are all not consistant. Comes and goes.. It's confusing sometimes. LOL!!

But everyone else gave good advice.

Take a warm bath, change positions, sit, stand, -- if all that helps the contractions then they are not real contractions.
