Can somebody explain wic to me? What exactly do they provide you with? I just cut my hours at the hospital back so that I can take care of the girls. I think this may qualify us but I'm confused as to what exactly wic does.

up until 6 months provides formula, based off of what the babies should be getting based on whatever studies they did. I got 31 cans of the concentrated and 12 cans of the powdered formula.

If you are BF they will give you stuff like cheese, eggs, beans, tuna, milk, cereal, and carrots I think.

For the babies after 6 months, they will provide infant cereal, formula, and juice, after one, for the babies you will get eggs, milk, cereal, cheese, and juice.

While it is never enough to get thru the whole month, it is enough that you will only have to suppliment.

It is income based and you will need to make an appointment and bring: Proof of residence, income, birth certificates (the babies), the babies (for weight and height) I think that is it, but I would call and make sure. If you need the number pm with your state and I will find for you.

Hope this helps! And keep in mind, I may have forgotten some stuff!

I get 9 cans of formula per baby, 2 boxes of infant cereal per baby, and next month I will get 2 infant juices per baby. My son is 3 and he gets 4 gallons of milk, 32oz of cheese, 36 oz of cereal, 2 cartons of eggs, a thing of peanut butter, and 6 juices. I get (bc I am pregnant) The same as my son plus carrots and extra cheese. If I was bf I would also get the same.

At first we got 20 cans a month of formula and 4 boxes of rice cereal a month.

Then, at 6 months, they added on juice (the 4 ounce bottles) as well as formula. We were still getting 20 cans.

At 1 year they changed it to whole milk, juicy juice, eggs, and regular brand cereal, and peanut butter/beans.

The amount of formula depends on the office, I guess. Here they give 9 cans of powder formula per month.

I think bf moms get WIC until the babies are 1 year old.

If your children need a different kind of formula, the ped just write a prescription and you can get whatever kind you need.

And for older children, who may not be gaining enough wiegh, WIC will also provide pediasure with a doctors prescription.

Another thing they do, is if a twin mom needs boost or ensure they will provide it too with a presc

We also get nine cans of powdered formula PER BABY, 3 boxes cereal PER BABY, 2 bottles of juice PER BABY. When the girls were born and I was still BF'ing, my nutrionist put down that I was supplementing, and I did a little, and that little bit of supplementing got us the formula from birth, so we had a little extra "stock" built up, and we never run out. We are now down to about 27 cans, so by the time the girls are one year and go completely to cow's milk, we will only have a few, if any, cans left over. The NEVER have used all the cereal that we get. Juice we go through pretty quickly, though. If only you got diapers with WIC [IMG]
