After reading the other WIC post, it reminded me that I had a question maybe some one can answer for me....
I got checks for the girls for juice. It says 11.5oz or 12oz frozen juice.
What is frozen juice?? (duh!) Am I supposed to get concentrate and make it myself? (I buy the regular cans of juicy juice for myself)

I thought babies were supposed to drink 'baby juice', and I thought they didnt drink juice till much later?

    Thank you.

For us, frozen juice is an option, but not the only option......and never for the babies, just for the kids and I that are over age 1.

I would call the office and ask.

I don't know why they are so big on the juice thing at WIC, my boys are 9 months and still don't drink juice. I really feel like it's hard enough getting all their solids and nursing or formula in, juice seems like it would just be a bunch of unneeded sugar. You could just get it for yourself though.

For us it is frozen juice concentrate we need ot make ourselves. Of course, we dont make it!

The juice is for you.. Until 6 months after the babies were born they give the mom things like milk and juice and other stuff.. And i get regular juice i chose not to get the concentrate.. I get too lazy and dont make it.

Just my two cents about not giving the babies juice...they absolutely DON'T need it - way too many empty calories when they should be getting all their nutrition from breastmilk or formula. If/when you do introduce it (after 1 year), i would do it VERY diluted; maybe 20% juice to 80% water.....that way they won't get filled up on all that sugar that they don't need and which will 'train' their tastebuds to crave. Water is perfect for drinking!

Actually, as long as a juice is 100% juice, and a fruit the babies can tolerate, it's ok. I've read that "baby juice" is just marketing.

BUT - personally, I wouldn't give them any juice anyway. Like Jordari said, it's just empty calories. And I have heard SO many moms say they wish they'd never given their babies juice, because as kids they refuse to drink plain water.

I've never offered my babies juice, and I'm not going to. They drink water at meals, and nurse the rest of the time, and they love it - I want to keep it that way! :D Maybe when they're older I'll give them very diluted juice as a special treat, but that's it. If they want something sweet they can eat fruit.

Our checks say 3 cans 11.5oz-12oz concentrate *or* 128oz fluid juice. If they only say concentrate then I think that is what you have to get but maybe ask on your next visit if you would be able to get the regular juice instead of the concentrate.

Yes "baby juice" is just very expensive watered down regular juice. They dont "need" juice at any age but I was told they can start having it around 4 months. However I waited longer since I did not want to give them juice in a bottle and wanted to wait until they could use a sippy cup. I started giving the babies juice around 7-8 months but watered it down 1/3 juice to 2/3 water and still do. They only get 1 4oz sippy cup of juice (watered down) a day with their snack and drink either milk or water the rest of the day. But it's really up to you whether you give it to the or not since they dont really "need" it but I found it helped to keep them "regular" when we started introducing more solids.

Sweetie that juice is for you, not the babies. They don't offer juice for the babies this early. It is for the mother postpartum and/or breastfeeding. I was on WIC before 10 years ago..same thing then too. Babies don't get juice yet it is too early to introduce anything other than formula. Hope that helps.

They gave the girls checks for cereal AND juice. I was just wondering why, I thought it was strange.

I am all set with giving them sugary juice anytime soon. They def dont need the sugar, they are wired enough!

    Thanks.
