Okay, well they are for the most part, but Anthony has major pooping issues, so the pedi switched him off Enfamil Gentlease & gave me samples of Nestle Goodstart (Angelo is still on Enfamil with no problems), since applejuice, prune juice, & a powder medication hasn't worked. I'm not sure as to what exactly the difference is between the formula's, but the first bottle of Nestle I gave him worked wonders. He was pooping 2-3 times a day & wasn't constipated. So, I went to WIC, with a doctor's perscription for it, keep it mind, & they do not accept it regardless!!! How could they deny formula that works for my baby you ask? They got a 'special' contract with Enfamil and if need be, the only Nestle formula they offer is soy. So, now I am sitting here, stuck with Enfamil, baby very fussy because he hasn't pooped in 3 days.. ugh!!

They are suppose to take a doctor's order for change in formula. Call and try to talk to someone higher up. A pain but worth it.

They are supposed to take prescriptions for it. I would call the federal office for that. I hope you get taken care of by them soon. I know your little guy is miserable.

So sorry your little guy is so miserable. Poor baby!!!

I would start calling, their boss, then their boss until you get what's best for your baby. A contract shouldnot interfere with a baby's best interest!

I was able to get a prescription for a special formula for WIC in MN. I think you need to talk to a supervisor. Good luck.

Maybe since you have a perscription for it you can get it thru a pharmacy? WIC does not cover my Nutramagen but i do get it thru the pharmacy paid my medical.. I definatly could not afford 27$a day in formula..

They told me that if it was a formula different than their default formula then I would have to get a dr note. Nestle Goodstart is their soy formula so I don't know why they wouldn't use it for a regular formula. When I had my apt after the babies were born they said anything else and I would need a dr note and then they would make out new checks. I agree with pp, call a supervisor.

:hug99: I hope you do get to talk to someone higher up and get the formula your little one needs. This just doesn't seem fair at all! <_< Please update us if you talk to someone!

I dont know if you have already done this but if you call Good Start and join their multiples program they send you 12 cans for free. I got mine when the babies were a few months old.

They also sent two little brag books and 2 fuzzy blankets.

It wont solve your problems long term but it will help in the short term.

Also, I know someone who called them and said they had twins and all they had was 1 baby and they sent her 12 cans as well. They do not ask for proof. So maybe if you are desperate you could ask friends to call as well.

My boys had to be on Alimentum and I was able to get it with a doctor's perscription, have you tried that? It's hypoallergenic, the milk base is broken down into it smallest form and makes it easier to digest for lactose intolerant babies (mine), colicky or babies that tend to spit up alot. I would call to speak with a supervisor also so maybe you can get a better explanation as to why they won't give it to you with a doctor's perscription and go from there. Some of the things they do are wacky for instance, my boys are lactose intolerant but they don't offer Lactaid cheese for children who are lactose intolerant just regular cheese!

I see that you are in NY. I think WIC follows state guidelines, but I may be wrong. I am on Long Island. My boys were micro preemies, so when they finally came home they were on Neosure. High calorie preemie formula from Similac. When I went in to my appt with the note from my dr they had no problem at all. As everyone else has said, I would call anyone I could about it. Even call another WIC office if you have one local enough. I know there are a few down here within a reasonable distance. Even if they have a 'contract' with Enfamil, they should be able to supply you with what your baby needs, especially since it is medically nessassary.

That seems strange that they have Nestle Soy but not the regular stuff...sounds like someone at WIC was uninformed. I hope you can get this straightened out soon. Sorry your little guy isnt feeling well!

I don't have any WIC suggestions, but I do have a suggestions for the poop problem - pear juice. It is in the baby section in stores and I think is made by Gerber. Mine did not poop on her own for 7 weeks. We tried about 10 different things, but then I gave her pear juice - 2 oz. a day for 3 days and then she pooped. To this day, I still give her some pear juice once a week just to make sure that never happens again. The Dr. is not who gave me that suggestion, but when I told him what I did - he said "whatever works"

Here in NC, WIC has a contract with Enfamil. You can ONLY get Enfamil products through WIC unless your baby has a special need (ie. prematurity, metabolic disorder, or milk allergy - that is when they are allowed to give Neosure, Alimentum, Nutramigen, etc. with a Rx). Since you want regular Nestle Good Start, they will not allow it because of the contract with Enfamil. If this is the same case as in your state, it will not do you any good to speak to anyone higher up. However, since she did say they allow Good Start Soy, I would call and question it just to be safe. Have you tried any other Enfamil products other than the Gentlease? My girls did not do well on it either and now are on Lactofree. Just a thought. Good luck!
