We have been using WIC for the girls' formula. Well, WIC just changed from using Enfamil to using Similac-started on October 1st. The girls have been on Enfamil all along. Now starting at the end of the month (that's when our new checks go into effect) they will be on Similac.

Isn't it hard on their little tummies to just switch like that?? I'm worried that once we make the switch the girls are going to start being cranky and that their tummies will be upset. Is it as big of a deal as I think it is, or should we be fine?

I wish I could afford to just keep buying the Enfamil, but it is so expensive. I am thankful that they still qualify because DS doesn't. ;)

I only used formula in the very beginning to supplement (and now when I dont' pump enough!) but the nurses in the NICU told me they are exactly the same, just a different name. I hope thats true and it's an easy transition for you.

If you get a prescription from your pedi stating that the kids need to stay on enfamil, then WIC has to give that to you. You just need the ok from your pedi. My babies started out on Enfamil and we switched to Similiac. They say that babies don't notice and it is the same thing, but my babies had a hard time on enfamil and did great on similiac. I believe there is a difference. HTH.

How strange - I get WIC too - I'm in CA - and they just switched from Similac to Enfimil. I asked my ped and the WIC nutritionist about the change - as long as it's the same kind - ie. DHA RHA stuff etc. it should be okay - my girls haven't been affected by it - Thank God that they were older when the change took place. I agree with other post - if you ped gives you a scrip for the formula you've been using - WIC will honor it. Alls I can say is Thank God for WIC - or I'd be living in the street!! formula is so expensive - and for 2!!! good Luck

Do they HAVE to honor a prescription? One of mine takes Elecare (very expensive!) I was told by the representative that at our first appointment (mid October) we need to bring the form in filled in thoroughly or else they will not allow her to receive Elecare.

If anyone has information on the rules of WIC I'd appreciate it!

Exactly what I was going to say.

Here they give Good Start automatically unless your pedi says other wise.

I think they will be fine Ronda, although I know it's a bummer to have to mess with something that is working!

    Ronda,

I am the WIC dieititan where we live. At their age it shouldn't hurt their bellies. If they are doing OK on table foods the change shouldn't be a big deal.

As far as getting an RX for Enfamil - when Michigan switched From similac to Enfamil they made it so we can't even give them similac - the state doesn't allow it even with an RX. Plus, they are going to want a medical reason as to why the babies need to stay on Enfamil.

Hope that helps and I hope all is well!
