Why won't they swat at or grab their toys?

When they are on their activity mat they are too busy looking around at us and other things but not at the toys above them. This is the same in their bouncy chairs. Rarely do they even care that there are toys in front of them.

Shouldn't they be trying to grab at things at this age?

We try putting stuff in their hands to teach them to grab but they really don't seem to care yet.

My twins are two days older. The one swats away at the jungle gym and the other could care less. I think they are still in the normal range and no need for concern.

The one that doesn't care for it loves his Jumperoo and I think he just likes to be vertical than on the floor.

Dont worry!! I think it is too early although I am sure some babies do at that age. Mine started to swat at 17 weeks and grab at 18 weeks. THen they began to shake their own rattles! Now my one son palms his bottle and shakes it all over the place. Your babies have plenty of time. I remember being nervous too!

I think my girls started swatting at stuff around that age, it wasnt till sometime between 4-5 months that they started really grabbing things!

My daughter refused to attempt to play with anything at that age. She now is into everything within reach and steals the toys from my son--I wouldn't worry at all.

my girls were grabbing toys at this age, but all kids are differnet, for example, Dakota was THROWING her toys, where Balie would just hold them and fiddle with them.

That was too early for our boys. I mean, if you put something in thier hands, the might realize it was there, otherwise i think it was about a month or so later that they actually reached and grabbed. Now the tug-o-war!
