Im just wanting to get a feel for what could be the reasons for going on bedrest...

1~ Why were you put on bedrest?

2~ How many weeks were you pg when this happened?

3~ What # pg was this for you?

I ask, because this is my 6th pg, all have been uneventful and no preterm labor or anything like that. The only thing I really deal with while pg is GD..I was on insulin the last pg because the diet wasn't controlling my sugars.

I would love to hear what it was that caused you to be put to bed..lol

    thanks ladies.

I was originally put on bedrest at 20 weeks due to high blood pressure and possible pre-eclampsia. When the pre-e tests came back negative, I was taken off bedrest with strict orders not to work more than 20 hours a week, and to spend at least 2-3 hours a day laying in bed or on the couch resting. This is my first pregnancy. I will go back every week or two now to check my bp and monitor for any signs of pre-e or pre term labor.

    Hi Lisa,

1~ Why were you put on bedrest?

    Shortening cervix.

2~ How many weeks were you pg when this happened?

    28 weeks.

3~ What # pg was this for you?

    4th.

I had the beginnings of pre-e with Justin and Josh, but was able to deliver them full-term. Hannah(2nd) was born at 35 weeks because of PROM. I delivered the twins at 37 weeks after 9 weeks of bedrest, due to high blood pressure, and the beginnings of pre-e again.

THank you so much for answering..

do we know why the cervix shortens? Is it from ptl or something else? I know that she checked my length at my 16week nst and will again on the 11th...im hoping its still nice and long and strong

I think that every woman's body is different when it comes to the issue of cervical shortening, but my doctor told me that with twins, the added pressure of two babies, plus really fast growth can often cause the shortening. I know that with my first pregnancy (a singleton) I didn't have any cervical issues at all, but now with the twins I am already on bedrest :( However, with that being said, I have read some posts by women on here who have great cervical lengths until the end. It's very different for everyone.

Thanks so much ladies for posting..Im really getting nervous about the whole thing. We are supposed to go to FL when Im 23.5-24weeks pg and now Im not so sure thats a good idea..I still have a few weeks to see what happens but Im nervous about the 12 hr drive. My dr knows about the trip and said she wouldnt recommend it but it was up to me if I decided to go..She just said to make sure you get out and walk every few hrs to keep from getting a clot, which isnt a big deal cause with 5 kids someone always has to pee..lol and i can lay in the back of the van so I wont be sitting the whole time..

I think i was hoping to see that most of the women on bedrest were first time moms..lol This being my 6th pg Im not so sure whats gonna happen but like I said before Ive never had any cervical issues or ptl or the such..

    Guess I wait and see..

thanks again for posting your expirence with bedrest. I REALLY appreciate it

1~ Why were you put on bedrest?

I was on and off bedrest. It never was strict. When my girls' TTTS started taking a turn for the worse, I'd be on bedrest laying on my left side all day. I could get up to eat, potty, or anything else I needed to do. This happened at about 19 weeks and again at 25 weeks. At 34.5 weeks, I was put on strict bedrest because Sierra has slowed her growth considerably. We planned to induce a few days later.

2~ How many weeks were you pg when this happened?

I answered this one already ;)

3~ What # pg was this for you?

It was my first pregnancy. My 2nd pregnancy with my singleton was a breeze and I wasn't anywhere near ready to go into labor at 41.4 weeks when I was induced.

    1. Contractions and irritable uterus - but a cervix that has (thank God) stayed long and closed. I am also not 5 feet tall, which contributed to my difficuluties.

    2. 20 weeks modified, 22 weeks very restricted - bathroom and shower privileges only.

    3. first babies!

1~ Why were you put on bedrest? Incompetent cervix, I went down to less than half a centimeter, was dialated to 3 and had a bulging bag.

2~ How many weeks were you pg when this happened? 20, I spent 7 weeks on STRICT bedrest in the hospital delivered at 27 weeks

3~ What # pg was this for you? #2, but I got pg when my first was only 4 months old!!!!

    Hope this helps!!!

Kiesha what makes you think its going to happen? Are you having problems now?

I am getting the pubic pain on my right side, but its normally after Ive sat too long. I do feel heavy when I stand and baby A loves to play with my cervix..lol

I go Mon for a NST and cervical check..cant wait to see my tadpoles again...hopefully will find out what they are also..

It's been so long so I can't remember exactly when I was put on bedrest, but it was on/off from very early on due to bleeding. I had a blood clot on one of the placentas. That placenta ended up rupturing at 28 weeks and I was on hospital bedrest until the girls were born by emergency c-section at 30 weeks when I finally went into labour. They are huge and healthy today!

Thank you so much for posting this questions and thanks to everyone who has answered. Since I work full time and was going to try and get some school classes in before I deliver, it gives me a good idea on when it's most likely to happen (if at all).

I was taken out of work and put on modified bedrest at 32 weeks because # 1 high blood pressure and traces of protien in my urine, and #2 I was dialated to 2 cm. Which is what I was dialated to until I delivered at 37 .3 weeks when I had the girls, they actually had to induce me after my water broke because I was stuck at about 2-1/2!

1~ Why were you put on bedrest?

I did not have any bedrest. I know that you are trying to get ready for the what if and there is a chance that it will not happen. I worked as a third grade teacher till just short of 36 weeks and had my twins just short of 39 weeks. I also had a 3 1/2 year old at the time. (He's almost six now.) My only complication was GD which was controlled by diet. I started having contraction at 14 weeks and although they hurt, they made no cervical changes. I drank a LOT of water and rested as much as I could.

I know that this is not the typical experience but wanted to share it anyway.

I read that you are taking a trip. I would advice against it, sorry. I flew at 22-24 weeks and it wasn't really great but I can't imagine the drive. Sorry.

    Good luck.

    1. I was put on bedrest because Addison (baby A) was not growing well and had a low fluid level

    2. 30 weeks- it was a complete shock - up until that point she had been growing at an almost equal rate - and at 30 weeks there was a big difference and her fluid level was low! so I was instucted to stay in bed or on the couch w/ my feet up and eat and drink a lot!

    3. this was pregnancy #5 I have 3 sons ages 13, 10, & 8 and had an ectopic preg in 2002

    1. I went on bedrest due to PTL issues (irritable uterus, lots of BH contractions that turned PTL) & my cervix was 1cm dilated & 50% effaced (previously had been great)

    2. Modified bedrest at 30w4d (for a few hours before getting admitted to the hospital), hospital bedrest at 30w5d, modified bedrest (again) at home 31w2d

    3. First pregnancy...no complications & working full time as a nurse up until my 30w4d appt! Now I'm unhappily trudging through bedrest to try to get to 34-36 weeks.

Hopefully your pregnancy remains uneventful. Not everyone gets put on bedrest, so try to keep an upbeat attitude & maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones!!!

Yep I understand that not everyone gets put on bedrest, and Im HOPING im one of those lucky ones..lol I was more wanting to see which # pg it was and if that made a difference...

Danielle thanks for the thoughts and concern on my traveling. Ive talked to my dr and she is fine with it..The babies are doing well and my cervix hasnt changed. If something happens between now and the time we leave I definitely wont go, but as of now we are intending on going...We do have a van that I can lay down so I wont be sitting the whole trip, which will be nice..

Heather are your girls ID? Im just wondering if that had anything to do with the size difference? TTTS?

its nice to see so many of you worked late into your twin pg..Im working but only 6-9hrs a week M, W, F..so its not a big deal really. But I will be quitting if things go down hill

Im very optimistic that this pg will be like any other one and not have to deal with bedrest, but I am also prepared incase that happens..lol

1&2 - Put out of work and onto modified bedrest at 34 weeks due to high b.p. Strict bedrest at 35 due to high b.p., beginnings of pre-eclampsia. Delivered at 37.2 due to worsening pre-eclampsia.

    3 - first pregnancy.

    Good luck!
