My understanding is that nothing is recommended before 6 months now because feeding too early can lead to more food allergies.
The most important thing for a baby in the first year is formula or bm

I think it depends on the pedi. Ours starts rice cereal at 4 months. We started at 4 months with my oldest DD and at 5 months with the twins, since they were preemies. We haven't had any problems with starting cereal or fruits/veggies before 6 months.

We haven't either. All of mine were started at 4 months.

I was wondering this too as my twins are just shy of 4 months and are at 8oz each bottle! DS I think is almost ready, he seems dissatisfied at lunch time and I think a teaspoon of cereal would fill him up. DH wants me to wait until at least 5 months because a guy he works with has a DS 3 weeks older than ours and they started him on cereal a couple of weeks ago and he was sick for a week after. I told him that perhaps he wasn't ready or they fed him too much and that our kids are different but he is still unsure. I have an appt with the pedi next week so I will check then.

All I know is that DS cannot wait until 6 months to start solids!

We started cereal at 3.5 months because they were eating over 40 oz of bottle a day! We introduced solids at 4 months. No problems!

Like pp said it depends on the pedi. Ours told us we could start the twins on cereal and stage one foods. Jackson was taking 40 oz of milk a day and weighed over 18 lbs. The pedi said he was ready for solids. He said we could try Hannah on solids and see how she does with them. So far both babies are doing great.

From what I understand it is partly because thier guts aren't mature enough to digest it and it goes straight through! Messy messy! [IMG]
