Why is my 2.5 m/o waking up so much at night?

OK, my boys were falling into a schedule where they would sleep for about 4-hour or sometimes longer stretches at night (go down about 10, wake between 2-3, up around 6, back down for about an hour or so and then up for the day). But the past three nights they, but mostly Chase, have been getting up every 1-2 hours or so, crying. They did it Thursday nite, all night long, and I was alone with them, so it was rough, then again Friday night, and I was alone with them again, and Chase kept waking up crying and I got so frustrated with them and my lack of sleep I was yelling at them from the bedroom, then crying because I felt bad for yelling at them ... my parents took them last night and Chase was up often again.

They take long morning naps and short afternoon and evening naps, so it's not like they sleep all day and would be up all night, and this just started - any ideas on why they are doing this? Is it a growth spurt? I'd try to just rock back to sleep or put in a paci and nothing would work but having them nurse and then they would fall asleep nursing but wake up again in a bit crying. And at 6 in the morning the other day Chase projectile-vomited all over.

Oh, we have Connor on reflux meds and have started giving some to Chase as well after the projectile-vomiting episode.

Jake tends to wake up a lot a night - and then he will "snack," taking around 1 ounce. We are working on stopping the snacking during the day - but at night, I just feed on demand. I'm guessing right now it's a growth spurt..but other times, we find out that he has a burp that was never burped or he is trying to poo (a source of much distress for him).

We are a few weeks behind you, hopefully others will weigh in.

Glad to see you back - wondered where you were.

I'm sorry you're having some rough nights. It's tough at the age they're at, especially since you've had to go it alone several nights. That has to be so difficult. When mine were that age (adjusted) it seemed like their schedule was changing all the time. My Chase was the one who caused me more grief than Cameron! Something about that name! [IMG] Since you're nursing, I'm sure when you're in the room, they want to nurse. Can you have one of your parents stay with you and try to go in and soothe them with a paci before you nurse? Although, they may be going through a growth spurt and just need to eat more right now. Hang in there. I hope it gets better soon.

WHat meds are the kiddo's on? Zantac didn't work for more than a week on my Wyatt and we had to change him to Prilosec. that works.

Reflux is a real pain and can throw everythign off.

Maybe they just need a half ounce to an ounce more at their feedings. Uping their feeding amounts usually helped when mine woke frequently at night.

Growth spurts usually come about 3 mo of age. So you're close to that. I would suggest seeing about getting another night off, just for yourself, regardless of the kiddos' issues. Destress a little, and then you might be able to see something you missed.
