So I have been EBF my twins for 10 weeks now and I EBF my other two children for a year each. With my other children I had so many positive reactions to breastfeeding... now with the twins, I seem to only get "your crazy, how long are you going to do this, why are you torturing yourself, formula is ok- why suffer...and many more" SO I thought this post could encourage us and and others that are considering BF. I feel I must add that my husband and my some of my family are very supportive, it is mostly comments from friends with no children and strangers  .

    Okay some of my reasons...
*I have 4 children, breastfeeding allows for one-on-one bonding and mandatory devotion of time!
*I find it easier than making bottles & cleaning bottles, my boobs are always ready and usually clean :D
    *Health benefits...too many to list
    *FREE-my husbands favorite reason :)

*my girls are faster on the boob than they are with a bottle (i know that's unusual, but i'm not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth!)
*it's free! (that's also a big one in our house)
*it was very hard to get started so i'm really, really, really proud of myself for sticking with it & giving us all time to figure it out

I forgot this important one!!!! I have a lot of breast cancer history in my family (mom and grandmother). I have been told by many doctors that breast feeding is on of the best things to do to lower my risks. So...
    *Possibly saving my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although my babies are finished breastfeeding now, as of last week, I thought it was so much easier to breastfeed than to make and clean bottles! It's a bummer that I now have to think about how I'm going to prepare their bottles while we are out. And of course I miss that special one on one time!

The **free** thing is a big one with my DH too! I love bonding with Molly when I nurse. I am still working on Stefan. He is sick right now, so I don't know if I can get him to even try this week. I love that when she was gone from me over night, she missed mommy so much that she was very unhappy. Is that wrong? Poor DH. (I hated that she was unhappy, but loved that she missed mommy and nursing... )

Now that we've got the hang of it and have been pain-free for a few weeks, I can honestly say I agree with your post! The free part was always a plus, as well as not having to wash or heat bottles, but it wasn't until it stopped hurting that I really felt the bonding part of it. So now I have another one to add:

*Cold mornings - I've ALWAYS hated them, but now there's something nice about snuggling up between two warm babies with a blanket around us while they nurse. I wouldn't have said this three weeks ago when they were waking up three times a night, but now that they sleep a good 5 to 6 hours before that 5 AM feeding, I actually love it. :D

    What a great post!

For us, it's the closeness. Charlotte loves to nurse, and is soooo appreciative of me. Tyler loves the early morning nurse, and the snuggle and play that follows. I love the fact it's free, easy and something only I can do for them

Proud nursing momma of twins for over 8 months now!

Many many reasons...too many to list on such short time, but one of my favorites is that it was always a sure-fire way to calm them, soothe them, put them to sleep and with two - we needed all the surefire ways we could get!

Yup Ditto the calming comment. I use to just take a baby and nurse all night during those first 3-4months of colic - I always preferred to have sore nipples from nursing as opposed to a screaming baby - and 9 times out of 10 it worked!

I had gestational diabetes, and was told that BFing reduced my chance of developing diabetes later in life - well worth it, I say!

Keep up the great work. I still get comments (and I've been doing it now for a year).. So I think it is great that you can stand up to the criticism. You are amazing!! You are a great example!!
