Why do we get so itchy at the end?

I know this has been posted lots of times, just wondering why this happens, if anyone knows. It's mostly my hands and feet and up my legs.

My hands and feet (esp feet) were UNBELIVEABLY itchy and i never got a good understanding of why. it wasn't PUPPS, at least not for me. There was some thought that I had minimal cholestasis (sp?) related perhaps to the onset of my pre-e, but I never found out for sure. Interestingly, to this day, my feet itch more than they did before I got pg. I mean, it's not unbearable like it was when I was pg, but it's there.

I will say this - save your money. i literally bought every OTC anti-itch cream I could find and nothing helped. i got some releif soaking in cold water but that was only minimal. the good news is that it does go away (mostly!).

I also got very itchy on the palms of my hands, my legs, and my feet. I'd wake myself up itching. We told the doctor and I actually had cholestasis so we needed to induce a couple of days earlier than planned. Cholestasis can harm you and the babies and the only cure is delivery so it's important to get tested for it if you have itching in certain areas (like the palms of your hands). PUPPS is not serious and generally extends itching to your entire body. Thankfully, the itching is not as severe as with cholestasis since there is no cure for PUPPS as well.

Some of it could just be the skin stretching out. I would bring it up to your ob, though.
