why do they put their bibs over their faces?

Ds is only bibless when sleeping due to spitting up here and there all the time. It gets much easier to change those than his clothes. And he always insists on putting it in his face. At first we thought he was lifting his arms up and that it was just getting in the way but it really seems intentional. Does anyone know why they do this?

I don't know about putting it over their faces, but mine used to chew on theirs. They would shove it in their mouths and chew on them.

Trust me, they do that too but that doesn't bother me really. When they put it over their faces it makes me feel like they are going to suffocate themselves or something.

I think it might be the whole peek-a-boo object permanence thing, plus, it's probably just plain fun to fling this fabric up and feel it on your face!

both of my dds did this as well. we had the same fear at first but no matter how many times we put it down, it went right back up. It actually became very funny to watch. They would put it over their face and then squirm around cause at first they couldn't figure out how to get it back down. Even when I did put it down, they were laughing or smiling underneath so I knew they were enjoying it. I had to keep teaching them how to use their hand to pull it off their face. Eventually they did figure it out but they just seemed to enjoy doing it. I think it was one of several different things: Peek-a-boo, object permanence, the fact that they could manipulate something in their environment, the way it felt on their face, the whole dark then light kind of thing. It deffinately has a lot of discovering features.

I have been having this problem too. My guys LOVE to do it when we are eating off of a spoon! Kinda aggravating! But heck, it keeps their mouths clean!!

Are you using plastic bibs or cloth? I was using cloth with no problem then switched to plastic to make clean up easier. They seemed to hate the plastic & were always yanking on them, pulling them off, and playing with them. So I've gone back to cloth :( But lately I just rinse them in the sink & hang them out to dry rather than throw them in the laundry... they don't get as clean,,, but I don't have to deal with velcro messing up the other laundry.
