Why are they leaking so much?

Almost every time they eat now it seems like more comes out the side of there mouths than down their throats. I switched to the flow 2 nipples as suggested in another post and that worked for a while, but not anymore. We end up soaked and frustrated. What do I do now?

have you tried a differnt type of nipple. I know there are some that are a larger size and that might help.

 

I'm not sure. I'll just try to brainstorm with you. Do they need an adjustment in their schedule, like eating more less often? I wonder if maybe they need breaks during their bottles? Mine have done that before. I hope the answer comes soon for you :hug99: .

 

we had same problem, especially with the wide mouth bottles/nipples, we're using the thinner bottles/nipples and they get a better suction around it, also try feeding them more upright so they control the flow of the milk better than reclined. We used to just pull the bottle out of their mouth when we saw they weren't swallowing and reposition/burp/take a break, and try again! it will get better!

Not to sound dumb but what do you mean by thinner bottles/nipples? I am having one of those sleep deprived moments. We use the Playtex drop ins with the 2nd step nipples. Thank you for your answer.

Jen, how are you washing the nipples? If you wash them in the dishwasher, or boil them more than once, the holes tend to stretch out.

I wash them with a bottle brush and soap and water. Could the brush be stretching the hole out?

I think it's possible! Especially if they were working for them, and now they aren't.
