Ladies - I"m posting this here since you all have more experience.....

We just got back from our trip to the east coast. All went well. I kept them on the west coast time for their routine and times for naps and bedtime. I thought everything went smoothly until the past two nights...we've been home since Saturday and for the past two nights when I put them down to sleep they are crying hysterically. It's like a ZOO! Last night I went in once, and then I left and refused to go back in...they finally got quiet about 45 minutes AFTER I put them down for the night (around 8:30pm). Will this pass? I sure hope so because we had such a good routine and they used to go down easy.

ALSO - do any of you hear your little ones at night crying for a little and then going back to sleep? Mine have done that ever since I've transitioned them to 2 naps a day. I hear them waking up a few times a night now and they seem to wake up ealier than they used to (about an hour earlier).

I would say that they are adapting to being at home again and maybe they have a little separation anxiety as a result. Also, my DS started crying a lot around that age and I had to do CIO for day naps. Im there now with my DD as she is crying everytime I put her down for a nap and for no apparent reason.

Are they trying anything new developmentally?

As for the crying out in the night, my DS does that regularly. Both wake more during the night and DS now only sleeps 10 hours a night instead of 12! I´ve had to change their bedtime otherwise I´d be up at 6am!!! It´s all to do with getting older...and wiser! ;)

    GL!

 It may or may not have anything to do with your trip. Mine go through phases where they go to sleep very easily and then they'll have a time when it's difficult for them to get to sleep. It will pass.

I do hear mine cry for a few seconds and then go back to sleep. Someone does this at least once a week. Usually what happens is it wakes me up and I realize I need to use the bathroom and by the time I'm done whoever it was is already back to sleep.

 My boys always have a tough time with transitions. I would bet that is all it is. Not fun, but it should pass. :)

The night waking thing was definitely common for us around the age of your twins. I usually gave them about 5-10 minutes to work it out on their own - usually it only takes a matter of seconds now. If the cry was abnormal, I would definitely go check on them sooner, though. Teething can also disrupt sleep like that.

We always have some sleep disturbances when we get back from a trip. After a week of being home, things usually settle down. But glad to hear your trip went so well!

This happens to me usually twice a week. I also have one baby right now that does not like going to bed at all, she throws the biggest fits whenever we start getting ready and for every step in between. I really hope it stops soon. It looks like your babies are 10 months old, and i'm not sure at what age they understand "object permanence" but they might not get that yet, so once you leave the room they think you are gone. I hear that games like Peek a boo help them learn this....so might be worth a try.
