I BF the girls till they were 11 months old. I weaned them onto formula but they don't like this much nor the bottles. I switched to cups now but they still won't have much formula either. I have now started giving thwm tea with whole milk in which they seems to love. can I start weaning them onto whole milk. I BF the boys till they were two, and I have been adviced not to give whole milk before the age of two... please help.
    thanks.

You have been advised not to give whole milk before the age of 2? I've never heard that. Usually you do whole milk at 12 months and then sometimes at 2 years switch to 2% or so.

Never heard of that either. We switched to whole milk at 12 months and now, at 14 months, we are working towards switching to the sippies!

My girls pedi did not want my girls to have whole milk till age one. Then at age I was told to give them fat free milk. Not sure if it is different since you are not in the United States?

We started whole milk at about 11.5 months--I ran out of forumla and was tired of the money. We made the transition over night and the kids never had an issues to it.

We got the okay from our pedi to switch to whole milk when the girls were 11.5 months and weaned themselves.

I switched to whole milk at 11 1/2 mos. I ran out of formula & just couldn't bring myself to buy anymore. We were told whole milk til age 2, then we could go down to fat free. I've never heard of waiting til 2 for whole milk!

You do whole milk until they are 2 or 3 unless they are chunkers like my boys and we switched to
    2% at age 2.

It could be later if your little ones have a history of food allergies or if food allergies run in your family...but if you've been giving them milky tea, they're probably fine!

My pediatrician let us switch to whole milk at age one. We could switch to 2% or even 1% when he turned 2.

You can switch to whole milk at 1 if they're no longer getting the appropriate quantity of breastmilk/formula. I would try a straw cup. They might take the milk better than from a regular sippy! HTH :)

Thanks everyone. i am going to make the switch and I think they are going to be just fine. When your older children are 17 and 11, you ahve to learn all over again.

    :)
