Whole or 2%

My twinkies are 11 months so we'll be making the move to milk in a month. I have read and heard differing opinions on whole/2% milk. What do you all give your kids?

 

Whole milk is recommended until age 2.

 

You should do whole milk until age 2, unless your doc tells you otherwise. My oldest switched to 2% at 15 months as per doc's orders (she was way off the charts for weight and height, and he wanted her weight to slow down; she was back on the 95% at 18 months). At age 2, we switched her to 1% or fat free b/c she already was on 2%. Normally you can go to reduced fat milk at 2 years.

Yep, definitely whole milk until 2. Although I buy one of each, and give them a mix of them. (Now, that is, since they are over 2).

 

We use whole. My oldest uses it too. Never had trouble with it. My oldest is actually very thin.

I have to agree, Whole milk is the way to go. Although, I have to admit... I drink 2% milk myself, and if I run out of whole milk - I can just substitute that for the whole milk. The girls can't tell the difference, but the Dr. recomends the "fat" content in whole milk until the age of 2. My twins are just 19 months now.

When I wean (from breastfeeding) I'll be going to 2%. But, that will be when my two are over two years old. I would have gone to whole milk at a year if I was not breastfeeding.

Exactly--it's not just for calories, high amounts of fat are essential for proper brain development. So, whole unless your doctor says otherwise!

 

My kids drink whole milk. I have a 7 yr old that still drinks whole milk. He's very thin. He'll be in 2nd grade and just weighs 40 pounds.
I have an almost 2 yr old dd that is 30 pounds and she drinks whole milk, too. Our Dr. said to keep her on it until at least two.

 

We were told whole milk until 2 as well. We were told that they need the fat for brain development. You might want to do a google search about the importance and benefits of whole milk before age 2. Maybe it will help to make your decision.

We did whole milk until they turned 3. Then we switched to 2%. When Dax turns one, the whole family will go back to whole milk again.
