Whole Milk?

Hi, I was just wondering what the average age is for starting babies on whole Milk instead or formula, and if they were preemies should I start them later???

 

Usually it's around 12 months but I would also talk to your pediatrician about the right time to start milk for your babies.

 

Ask your Ped what they recommend and go by that. We waited until after our 12 months WBV to start introducing it.

 

Around 1 year is the average. We started our girls on pediasure in sippies at 1 year for extra calories, based on our pedi's recommendation.

 

The average age is one year. My pedi told me it was because the milk protein is harder for babes to digest and can cause small bleeds in the stomach which can lead to anemia. I would gather from this theory that you should wait till their corrected age of 12 months to ensure their system is ready for the milk. See what your pedi says.

 

Ours said that 11 months would be fine, as the boys have a very good iron level and are right on their curve for size. I think if they weren't as good of eaters as they are, I would be worried about the vitamins, but they eat a lot of different things, so I think it's OK. (they were born at 35.5 weeks)

 

Yep, 12 months is the usual age, but I would see what your pedi recommends. Some give the okay earlier.

Most peds say 12 months, I think, however, mine gave the go ahead at 9 months.
