I've been thinking of giving my girls a bit of yogurt now that they're 8 months old...or maybe when they get a bit older. I was wondering where to get PLAIN wholemilk yogurt. All I've seen so far is YoBaby, which has sugar in it. Any ideas?

We get ours at our local Safeway supermarket. It comes in a big tub and the kiddos love it plain. Sometimes I make it with oatmeal and fruit all mixed together for breakfast. They REALLY love that.

Besides YoBaby, I've only ever seen the giant tubs of it.

You can get large tubs of it at almost all stores (gorcery, target, walmart, whole foods, etc) in several brands (stonyfield, brown cow, etc). I can also get little containers of Fage whole milk yogurt at Walmart and Whole Foods, I like this kind better because it is thicker.

We also got ours in the big tub. It was cheaper than the individual YoBaby and, between the two kids, they ate most of it. I usually gave it to them plain but I sometimes mixed in a little fruit and/or cereal.

Trader Joe's has an organic whole milk yogurt. They love it!

Stonyfield makes it and I've seen it in a big tub at my local grocery store. I've been contemplating buying it instead of YoBaby (because its cheaper!), but I'm afraid they won't finish the whole tub before it spoils. So far they split half a container of YoBaby a day so they don't eat that much yogurt (and I don't think DH or I would eat whole milk plain yogurt).

We get the big tub of Brown Cow and DH and I eat it as well. We are actually going through almost two tubs a week now that the babes are partaking a little every day too.

I love whole milk yogurt--you don't need to add near as much "sweetener" to it (whether that be fruit or sugar or whatever) because it is not near as sour as low fat yogurt.

Anyway, we get ours at a natural foods CO-OP.

BTW, after reading a book called "Omnivore's Dilemma" last year I am done with low-fat. DONE.

I buy YoBaby Organic Whole Milk Yogurt (in a 6-pack of 4 oz. servings) at my local grocery store (Stop and Shop, Shaw's, etc.) but have noticed that BJ's sells it also.

They sell big tubs of plain unsweetened whole milk yogurt in the yogurt section of all our local supermarkets (Safeway, City Market aka Kroger, Albertson's, Wal-Mart) here in town. It's usually on the very very bitty bottom shelf. You might want to ask a store employee if they carry it. Usually they will order that kind of stuff in if a customer requests it.

The book basically said that the more processed your foods are, the worse they are for you. Most of the time when a company makes their food "low-fat" they are processing it and adding in fillers like sugar that are no better for you than the original fat was. Plus, a small amount of naturally-occuring fat in your diet is actually good for you (within reason, of course).

I highly recommend the book. It spawned the whole "locavore" movement and it really changed the way I think about food. If only I had time to read books now! :)

That sounds like a book I can get behind. I'll have to pick it up.

I just wanted to add that my twins love whole milk yogurt. I buy it at my local supermarket, 32 oz container. I probably use 1.5 containers a week. I have some of the 4oz jars left from baby food and I load the yogurt into the jars so I have some sense of how much yogurt they are eating. I also puree foods (well not so pureed any more as kids can have it chunkier now) and add yogurt. I add it to sweet potatoes, bananas, pears, and so on. I also add oatmeal or mixed grain cereal into it. I like the Stonyfield Organic Whole Milk yogurt. I scrape the creamtop off into a separate jar to feed to my DD who is skinnier.

    Enjoy!

I just use the yo baby and i have purchased it once. They love it... I want to look into the bigger containers. I am going to buy some foods this week to make them myself because after my last 75 dollar baby food run i am done with buying it. Grrrrr....
