Is there anyway to tell who was conceived first?? Crazy question I know but I started thinking about it when my hubby & I were talking about what if we didn't have twins...who would we have had..Addie or Macoy..a girl or boy. So we started discussng whether or not you could tell who implanted first..is this something you can know or not. Addie was born first, the lowest of the two so I wonder if that means Macoy was conceived first...not that it matters to anything just my curiosty on Twins.
I thought they were concieved at the same time, and then the egg just splits into two parts. Maybe that is just for ID twins, but not sure.
QUOTE I thought they were concieved at the same time, and then the egg just splits into two parts. Maybe that is just for ID twins, but not sure. Yes, ID twins are conceived at the same time, that's a given. Fraternal twins are something else because they are from 2 eggs. Eggs are fertilized before they implant on your uterus and there is a period of 2 weeks (I think, correct me if I'm wrong!) between fertilization and implantation. I did find this online - QUOTE Fertilization begins in the fallopian tube. An egg is fertilized and divides into a morula or "mulberry like" cluster or cells and then into a blastocyst - where the first cavity appears pushing cells to either the outside or inside. As the blastocyst falls, floating through the fallopian tube, about 70 - 75% will implant. Only upon implanting in the uterine wall will 58% have a chance of continuing on to a normal pregnancy. So I guess the answer is you really will never know. ardon: I have heard that "boy sperm" swim faster and die faster than "girl sperm". Apparently most "boy sperms" die within the first 24 hours inside a womans body, "girl sperm" can live as long as 3 days. But, again, that doesn't really mean anything, lol!
I guess if you did IVF you could know which embryo was conceived first, but I don't think youd know which child started as which embryo Our doctors are convinced (and most anyone who knows them agrees) that Ethan was probably conceived first. Anthony was originally my baby C and they thought we would lose him. He measured smaller and his hb wasn't very strong in the beginning. When they were born, he was more "preemie" than Ethan was. It very well could be that he's just different than his brother, of course. But because of the infertility treatments, everyone suspects he started as a late blooming egg that released later than the others ha!

So what about those of us with TWO boys? (this sooo isn't like the "how many licks" Tootsie Pop question...)
Owen was concieved first.... only because we were told at the very first appointment.. and all after.. that he was a FULL week ahead of Hannah in size.. she said he was higher up and was bigger. Therefor concieved first.
Nevan was concieved first. From week 7, he measured three days ahead of Norah. He is older but she was born first.
QUOTE(Sarah© @ Jun 4 2007, 06:05 PM) From what my RE told me, my boys were both conceived at the same time in their petri dish. That would be the same for us....except in the petri dish we had help with ISCI.
I have wondered this also. Lucas has always measured smaller by about 2 weeks. He also learns to do things about 2 - 4 weeks after Lynae........Lynae was up higher, but born first via c - section.
Nefeli was conceived 4 days before Iris and was born first as well. they implanted near each other. the dr from the first ultrasound done the 8th week always charted them as being in different weeks and said they implanted about 5 days apart. so one was born at 39 weeks and one at 40! i was on clomid and one of the eggs released before scheduled so that was Nefeli. the other two were released after a shot and one became Iris can't wait till i explain all these details to the girls when they are older! I can see going on and one about making one on a Saturday and one on a Tuesday!!! i'm sure they'll be like "ewww! mommy stop talking about such things!!! you're embarassing us"
