Who is this child?

Holy moly is Miles ever "two" these days. In the last couple of weeks he has started having meltdown tantrums, yelling at me, making me talk to the hand and hitting me. He doesn't just say no to everything, he screams it, stomps his feet and pushes me for good measure. And into everything, a million times after he has been told to get out of whatever it is. I think we're at a minimum of 10 time outs a day. The next minute he is the happiest, loveliest little kid you've ever met. It's normal to wonder if your two year old is possessed, right?

With my oldest, this came in spits and spurts up until about 2 months before he turned 5. Then one day, I asked him to do something, expected the tantrum and got "ok mommy" with no head spinning. I was so shellshocked from the previous 3 years, I still ducked and covered.

DH and I have decided to weather this with the twins by drinking.

I am not sure there's really any other coping strategy! I am glad your oldest saw the light... that must have been a long 3 years. :wine:

Jen, unfortunately, it is normal ...I would say my two started it right before turning 3 and while they do have their moments now, it seems like the closer they get to 4, they are calming down a bit.
There were several months where I swear I looked like this  and probably developed a eye twitch too.

The constant scowl and eye twitch are normal. Also, you are going to find yourself channeling your mother. It is scary.

My older boys started that at 2 and it got better around 5 then when puberty hit it was deja vu.

ugh - change the name to Lane and you have one of my boys.....totally. Very reminiscent of my older boys going through the same thing...at the same ages.
And I too love my wine....;) ;)

Gah! Jen, you're my mom who's just slightly ahead with the kids' ages and this makes me nervous! My kids are starting to get a little sassy and stubborn and I am really starting to worry.

Y'all have had a crazy couple of months so I'm sure that's no help. How's everything going with the house?

I've found that my evening beer tastes soooo much better now, though.

Argh, now his tantrums are starting at night too; he had been going to bed so well and now it's a struggle to keep him in his room and he wakes up at night. I am hoping that there's nothing physically going on with him.

Today he had a meltdown at gymboree when the instructor moved one of the tunnels, he totally yelled at her and caused a big scene. It would have been funny if it was someone else's kid, but I had to give him a time out and then he had a second meltdown because we wouldn't pull him on a cart. At that point I had to haul him over my shoulder and carry him out of there. All the other parents with their well behaved singleton children shaking their heads in my wake... I sure hope this is a short phase or I am going to become an alcoholic.

But don't worry Steph, your girls will be just fine ;) .

Sorry to tell you, not better close to 4. DS has always been pretty mellow tantrum-wise though, DD is something else... they still get into everything too.

My sister in laws have kids between 7 and 13 and seem to love it though, so I'm guessing it's going to get better...
