Who had a C-section AND a vaginal birth for their twins?

I've had a C-section before and it really sucked for me so I've wanted to do what I can to avoid another one. I realize with twins that the cards are stacked against me moreso than they would have been with a singleton, but I also know several people who have done it and I'm well-researched in VBAC so I know I would like to at least try if the babies are in favorable positions.

It seems like a big fear for many moms who are pregnant with twins to have the possibility of delivering Baby A vaginally and then needing a C-section for Baby B. Such a big fear that many opt for the C-section straight away.

I'm curious about those of you that delivered your twins vaginally and by C-section - how bad was it for you? If you had a magic ball and had known this was the way your twins would come into the world would you have signed up for a C-section for both instead? I'm curious. Thank you!

Ihad both a c-sac and a vag. birth with my boys. Caleb came out fine but, when it came time to get Gavin out my doc couldn't grab both feet. My doc said there was some sort of membrane lip/ledge and therefore couldn't turn him enough to grab both feet so I got both types of delievery. I think the c-sec was way worse that the vag. 4 or 5 pushes and he was out, even though I tore on the top of my l*bia( I don't know if I can put that on here)!I would way rather go through a vag birth, with a great epi of course, than go through another c-sec. All the pullingand tearing, my doc said I had really strong stomach muscles, who knew!Had I known( always joked that was gona be the way) I would still have gone through both. I'm lucky because my recovery time was 2 weeks and I was back to work in 16 days! Everybodys' different, Good Luck!!

My sister had ID twins 9 years ago and had baby A vaginally and baby B by emergency c-section. His O2 sats dropped.
The hospital where I am delivering, wants me to have an epi in place, so if a c-section is needed, they won't have to put me under emergency anesthesia.

That is the one thing my sister wished she had done...was to have had medication for A, so she would have been awake for B, she didn't get to hold her babies for 10hrs after her surgery...
    Best of luck to you!

It wasn't bad as far as the recovery goes. I always had extremely easy vaginal recoveries, but the c/s was quite painful. I was religious with those pain meds, I'll tell ya what!

Sean nearly died, no he actually did die and was resuscitated by Super Nurse, so he was born via c/s after James was born vaginally. Personally if I knew beforehand that would happen I would have merrily skipped into the OR for my scheduled c/s.

I had Katelyn vaginally and then an emergency c-section for Jessica due to cord prolapse. She'd had her hand/arm presenting first and they waited for her to move for a while but then the prolapse happened and we had no choice but to do the c-section. I was really upset about having the c-section for a while-the double whammy delivery as some on TS call it was my nightmare while I was expecting the girls. But, what happened happened and I can't go back and change it. There was no reason to think I couldn't deliver both of them vaginally and there was no way to predict the cord prolapse. If I could somehow go back knowing what would happen, I don't know if I'd change things anyway. Having Katelyn vaginally makes me eligible for a VBAC if we have another child. Only one local hospital will do VBAC here and they will only allow a VABC when you've had a successful vaginal delivery. I had complications from both deliveries but the recovery from the c-section was still much worse for me.

    Count me in on this!
My baby A was vag. and baby B's O2 levels were going down and the bottom part of my uterus was contracting and not allowing her to move down, my Dr. attempted an extraction I remember looking down expecting to see my baby and I saw him pulling his arm out of my body...a bit disturbing! I ended up with an emergency c-section and a classical incision (now I can't have a VBAC) Anyway, if I knew what the outcome was going to be I would have had a c-section...

Straight up c/s here, but after laboring for 12 hours and not dilating past 4 cm..I was more than ready...it wasn't bad for me at all..just keep up with the drugs!

Right, seriously, I've changed my mind. I'm just gonna stay pregnant thanks. :D
(I had it so easy with my son-I have a feeling I'm in for it this time!)

    That is how I feel!!!

With my 5 yr old dd I pushed her out in 5 minutes and was fine afterward-taking a shower in the morning, walking around, and just totally normal except for some bleeding of course.

I WANT that again. Especially with 2 babies to care for.

I want that too. I never got it with my DD1 and I really want to be able to not be drugged up for the first moments of my children's lives this time...

    Head's down, babies! Head's down!

I had a scheduled c-section and had no complications. My OB didn't give me a choice b/c baby A was breech. At the time I was grateful not to have to choose.

I gave birth at 38wk 1day, and the boys were fine. I didn't feel drugged during the birth, nor afterward and got to hold my babies within an hour of birth (can't remember how quickly they got me into the recovery room). Gave birth at 5:00pm and was able to stand up at 5am the next morning. They took out the catheder (sp?) soon after and I got to walk around. I kept up on my pain meds until the bottle was empty. Of course there was some pain and discomfort, but the meds helped!! If I had to do it again, I would do it the same way.
