I just read about the Early Intervention here and sounds like most of you whose babies were born prematurely got it.

My babies were born at exactly 25 Weeks, and they weighed 1#10 and 1#8. You guys know that I lost my son but my daughter who is now 8 months - 5 mths adjusted never got that. I have taken her back to the hospital once for Developmental assessment once and that was it. Her next developmental assesment is in February. She was born in April and her first appointment was Oct. 31st. Am I missing out on something that should be happending especially to a baby who was born at 1 pound.

Do I call the Hospital, NICU, her pedetrician or who usually arranges for this? Pls help. She is doing pretty good but I would love to know.

I just recently found out that all low birth weight babies are entitled to receiving SSI from the day they are born. I did not know until afew months ago. I went and applied for SSI and they owed her about $,3,400. The mailed me the check in less than 7 days after I filed. They also gave me a check for the baby who passed for the months that he lived. Now my daughter is receiving $634 a month from SSI and they just sent me a letter yesterday saying it went up to $654 a month. Am not sure if some of you momos who had really low weight babies at birth are aware of it.

I just think my hospital never told me a whole lot of things which really gets me pissed off especially after what happened to my son. They refused to treat him for NEC even after I consulted outside doctors and every sign led to NEC. They treated him for something else for two months. When he passed they put on his Death certificate that he died on NEC due to prematurity. I even had a meeting with the hospital while he was still arrive trying to ask for a NEC expert but they refused saying they were the doctors and they knew he did not have NEC.... Sorry I just snaps everytime I think of it but thanks for alloowing me to vent.

I'm sorry to hear about your son, I didn't know! [IMG] You have my sympathy, I can't even begin to imagine how you feel. [IMG]

My local Social Services contacted me on their own because of information regarding Seans rough birth. Maybe you could contact your local SS and see if they can point you in the right direction?

Not sure where you are...here the number is listed under the name of the county government with the listing "child developmental services." Any parent can call with their concerns and they are supposed to evaluate that child. Your neonatal f/u clinic should have the name and number.

Our pedi referred us to the EI people. They contacted them, and then the EI gave me a call, got our address and came right out to our house and evaluated Zackary.

We were referred by the NICU but I know that your ped can also refer you or if you know the name of the early intervention organization you can call and inquire yourself.

Every state is different, you would have to check their guidelines, usually you can find them online.
