Who delivered your babies?

I am just wondering how many had their own doc at delivery?

  1. Yes, my doc who I saw all along did my delivery.

  2. No, but I saw a team of docs during my preg and it was a member of the team who did my delivery.

  3. No, I had never met the doc before who did my delivery.

We often have posts in Expecting about their doc not being the one to do their delivery. I am wondering how often that happens?

    Thanks!

I saw two docs and a team of midwives during my pregnancy, and both docs were there for my scheduled c-section. :)

My doctor was actually on call when my water broke and we went to the hospital to have the munchkins. I stressed over her not being able to be there though- I did not want the other doctor on staff... but in the end it worked out fine. :)

    Great poll Diane. :good:

This is really unusual, especially in a large practice like I was in with 10 docs, and considering none of my deliveries were scheduled ahead of time, but my OB delivered all FIVE of my kids! I'm so lucky! Love her!!

My regular OB delivered us. He actually wasn't on call when we checked into the hospital, but since the kids weren't born till the next day he was able to do it. I was a bit freaked out because I had never met the on-call OB and the thought of a stranger delivering my babies was a bit daunting.

My doctor was double booked on the morning of my scheduled delivery.. so he came in, two days earlier and him & another doctor were in with me to do my c-section. He is a sweetheart of a man to have done that. We were very lucky!

You actually didn't cover mine. I saw a team of doctors, generally the same three (1 of which was my regular OB/GYN). My OB/GYN was the one that actually delivered me. The rest came by to see me in the hospital. So...I got to see all three and they got to see the "end result" of their hard work. Not sure how that would work in the poll.

My doctor's office has a team of doctors. I mainly saw my doctor through pregnancy, but saw a couple of others. When they scheduled my section (with the twins), my doc was going to be on vacation, so I went to the doc I was scheduled with a couple of times. I ended up having an emergency c-section the week before and ended up with another doctor (who I didn't really like that much....)

With Liam, I was scheduled with another doctor (not sure why) and went to him several times during pregnancy.

I had two doctors who worked together, a resident and a peri. The resident was our favorite and she was the one who delivered the girls.

With Dax, it wasn't my midwife that delivered him but it was one of the other midwives in the group.

The doc that did my delivery came in said Hi, I am MD so and so.......then turned to the nurse and said go ahead and prep her for a c-section and promptly walked out of the room.......that is ALL she said to me.......No congrats after the deliver....NOTHING! It was HORRIBLE!!! At least my boys got GREAT attention being in the NICU for 9 weeks.

I went to a practice that had 4 OB's (3 regular and 1 On call that only works every 4 weekend). You see all of them at least once. My regular OB left the practice the day before I delivered :(. I was really bummed about it, cause I loved my OB. The other 2 regular OB's in the practise were both there for my delivery, and did a great job. :)

My doctor was on Vacation so I saw another doctor in the practice for a regular appointment. That afternoon my water broke and I went back to the doctor. He was the doctor that preformed my c-section. I was actually glad that it was him for 2 reasons. First all the nurses told me that he was the best and second my doctor wasn't going to give me a choice in how I delivered, this doctor did. I probably wouldn't go to him for regular visits because I am more comfortable with a woman but I loved him for the c-section (if that makes sense).

My doc went on a 3 week holiday in my 35th week  so for my last 3 appts I saw his friend at another office. His friend delivered my two. His OB friend ended up being the head of the OB department at the hospital so I was in good hands although I still would of prefered to have my OB deliver the twins.

I had one doctor and a midwife. but of course MY doctor didn't deliver my girls. the doctor who delivered I had met just once before when I had gone into early labour (before my bedrest). so I put in the "other"

I had a scheduled c/s, so my OB scheduled it for a day when she knew she could do it herself. (In fact we had it 2 days early because she was going on vacation.) And she was assisted by one of the other primary OBs in the practice.

But if I had gone into labor, she would have done it herself if it were during the day. If it were at night, it would have been whoever was on call that night. It might even have been a doctor I had never met, because her practice (3 docs) shared call duties with another OB practice at the same hospital.

I saw a team of docs, but one was my "main" doc but my "secondary" doc was the one that delivered me.

My OB/GYN and her associates didn't deliver at the hospital to which I was transferred. When I got there, I learned it would be a group of peris that would take turns being on-call for the delivery. I met the one who actually performed the emergency c-section about 10 minutes before he cut. He was assisted by a surgeon I'd never met. To this day, I don't know their names...

Also, my OB/GYN was wonderful throughout my pregnancy (she'd just had triplets, so she understood what I was going through), but even when the girls and I were transferred back to the hospital at which she was a resident, she didn't visit me post-partum. I was kind of bummed about that.

The nurses and I constantly joked that I would go into labor an hour after my doctor was leaving town the week before my scheduled c-section. Well, he got on an airplane at noon Friday and I started bleeding around 5 am Saturday morning. The twins were born 2 1/2 hours later! I had never met the doctor before, but I loved him! And he wasn't bad to look at :p and close to my own age! I just might switch since his office is closer to my house :D .

The practice my OB is in has about 8 other Dr.'s and I was so nervous that my OB wouldn't be "on call" when I delivered. I NEVER saw anyone in the practice but her. I voiced my concern about her not delivering the twins. She gave me her private cell phone # and told me to call the second I went to the hospital and not me not to bother calling the office, just call her directly. She said "do you think I'm gonna let someone else deliver these babies after all the hardwork we've been through together, no way". I LOVE my OB/GYN she is the best. It turns out that I didn't need to call her cell phone, during my appt. at 35w 5days, she announced..it's time, head over to the hospital and I'll meet you there. It all worked out GREAT. :D

I was followed by a primary perinatologist (never even saw an OB) but there were 4 other doctors in the practice. I saw my doctor in the morning and we decided to take them -- but he had an appointment so his colleague (one of the sweetest, kindest, gentlest men I've ever known in my life -- and cute!) delivered them. My doctor tried to make it in but just wasn't able. It was fine, though. This doctor had done my previous c-section as well and I trusted every member of that team. If it couldn't be Dr. C, I am glad it was Dr. D. Every single member of their practice had been involved in my care since I was in the hospital for 2 months prior to delivery and they had to see me at least once every day, usually more often.

there was a team of docs that I saw and I saw the doc that delivered the twins once or twice - and I'm so glad it was her...she was fabulous!!! She made sure that she "kept" me in the hospital an extra day so the twins could come home with me and she was just a wonderful woman!

I answered no, but I saw a team of docs and one of them delivered me. I was quite high risk and spent lots of time in the hospital. There were 5 MFM's that rotated, and several residents. I saw whichever MFM was doing rounds each day I was hospitalized. When I went for appointments, I saw whoever was open as I had to go in pretty much weekly. I had been "assigned" a primary MFM up front, and he always made a special point of coming to see me often enough. He and the head of the department were my favorites. I ended up being delivered by the head of the department - I was so happy to see him on that Sunday morning!

I'd met the midwife who was there once and never seen the doctor before but I'd heard of her by (good) reputation. She was an excellent doctor. I don't remember the midwife too much, I just vaguely remember her trying to help the doctor with Sean.

The practice I go to makes you see all the doctors just in case, however, after doing my obligatory visit with the other four. I only had appointments with my main OB and he and one of his partners did our delivery.

I saw a team of 2 OBs and a wonderful RE. OB #2 was set to do my scheduled C-Section, but I went into labor a day early and had both OBs there for the surgery! It was cool. :D

My dr. went on maternity leave the last month of my pregnancy. At the hospital the dr. who helped with the delivery end up being my dr. husband - werid how that happend, and the other person was like a student/intern person. At that point, I didn't care who was down there I just wanted them out. :)

My doctor was in Africa when I delivered & had someone covering for him. As it turned out, even she didn't deliver them it was another doctor who was on call that I had never met before that day. She was great though!

Our Dr's office had a team of six doctors who we rotated too, I just happened that the Dr. I saw the most scheduled my c-section on the day he would be there.

That happened to me too! My GP who does OB and the OB/GYN that I was also seeing (the one who left!) covered me thru the pregnancy. For the delivery I was supposed to have the OB/GYN's replacement, but after 1 visit in the office with her I went back to my GP and said no way was she touching me and so my GP got me another OB/GYN for the delivery. She (my GP) delivered DD and he delivered DS (along with the 2 SCN RNs per baby, the pedi, the anethetist, my RN and a midwife student!) - it was quite the gong show.

I went to an office with a team of docs that rotated covering L&D, so all their patients have appts. with all the docs through the pregnancy. I knew my primary OB wouldn't deliver the girls since I was scheduled for induction at 38 weeks and he was on-call the day before and the hospital wouldn't budge on the 38 week minimum for induction w/o medical necessity. My other option was to wait 6 days for him to be on-call again, but I was in constant pain and "done" with the pregnancy. I started the day with one OB in the practice and ended up being delivered by another 20 hours later.

Our OB is always on call for his own patients except on certain weekends. He delivered our babies. Also, he said if we went into labor on a weekend when he wasn't on call to let him know & he would try to be there.

In the beginning of my pregnancy I was seeing midwives until I found out I was having twins and when a new doctor started at the office I went to her and saw her through the rest of my pregnancy. I was lucky that when I went into labor that she was the doctor on call and she delivered my girls (by c-section). I did have a scheduled one a couple of days later but I didn't make it that far. For my son I saw another doctor mostly until she got pregnant herself and then saw a midwife. But I scheduled my c-section with the same doctor as the one who delivered my girls (she was hard to get apts. with since she just had a baby also and was on leave for the beginning of my pregnancy).
