I'm referring to the deep cleaning (scrubbing toiltes, shower, mopping, etc).. Doing laundry and everyday keeping I can do
with the babies awake or during their short naps during the day (very randomly they take a 2 hr nap during the day).
Plus, if they are napping during the day and they wake up hungry/crying I can't really take care of them if I have my hands
    with bleach...

When they do go to sleep at about 5 pm Im just tired... or I don't want to make noise...

I want to get a cleaning person..but my dh insits he will do it (he does), but I rather him spend the weekends with the babies
    rather than cleaning...

just wondering what you all did...

haha, That's a good question!!! I really didn't untill about a month ago when they got on a semi-scedulule. They started going down about 8 or 9 and sleeping at least 5 hours straight. Then I will usually wait till I just can't stand it, and have to deep clean. Then I'll make a pot of coffee, put them down and clean like crazy while they sleep. It's getting better now, though bc they are taking a really long nap about midday (usually together), and I've been able to get one big task done per day. GL

We do our best to keep the house tidy and do a load or two of laundry every day or two. The serious cleaning (toilets, dusting, floors, sheets getting changed, etc.) gets done by a housekeeper. She comes in every Monday, alternating between 4-hours and 2-hours (every other Monday is a deeper cleaning for 4 hours). We've had to make cut-backs on other things financially so we can afford her, but she's sooooo worth it. We don't have any family nearby to help us and dh works 60ish hours per week so I'm on my own most of the time and I'm partially disabled. I don't know how I'd do it without her.

I swear the only time we do a deep cleaning is when we have company. We need to have a get together soon :D As long as the dishes, bottles and laundry get done, I'm happy. I'm just too tired to care about anything else. These babies have taken over the house. There is baby stuff everywhere. I do want to get the house clean before Christmas, so I can enjoy it more. I use to be such a clean freak, but since the babies came, I don't care as much. I wish I could afford someone to come in once a week or so and do a deep cleaning. I hope as they get older, I'll be able to do more around the house.

I do the cleaning. I do a deep cleaning like you are describing at least once a week depending on how the week is going. I clean a little everyday.

We hired a service to come in and clean bi-monthly. We needed all the help we could get to find extra time in the days and this was one thing that greatly helped us.

Honestly, for the first year we did a deep cleaning once a month. I didn't care. I kept up with the laundry and my priorities were clean bathrooms and vacuumed floors, that was it. I decided that spending time with my girls was more important than clearing the dust bunnies.

We would each do some cleaning when we could :).

Hi, we have a cleaning person come in about 2 times a month. She does the heavy cleaning. We keep up with maintenance in between. I am home during the week and do light cleaning/laundry every day. On the weekends we try to do larger household projects like cleaning out closets. It doesn't always happen, depending on how the twins are doing.

We didn't really deep clean much that first year... maybe 1-2 times a month? At that point, DH and I both WOHM full time so the house was empty all day. Since no one was home, it didn't really get that messy or dirty. When we did clean, we did it at night or while the babies were busy in exersaucers or watching a Baby Einstein.

We have a bi-monthly cleaning service for deep cleaning - I honestly don't know if I would get to it otherwise...sad, but true.

We're in Northern CA - cost of living here is fairly high, so I'm not sure that the price translates. There are a number of companies available, I just asked for recommendations from friends & coworkers. For a 3/2 house, it seems that the going rate is around $75-85/visit, so roughly $160/month. Expensive, definitely...but I don't have any help otherwise, so that's the one place we've decided to splurge to keep our sanity in the first year.

I do the cleaning and I will clean my floors and bathroom once or twice a week. I vacuum every other day and I normally keep the house clean at all times (Mostly). The boys take two 2.5 hour naps and are very happy when they are awake, so I am able to get a lot done.

We both clean...though the deep cleaning is a rarity. It's just too hard to do since we both work (different hours) and there are other priorities.

When I went back to work I hired a cleaning lady. I didn't want to spend the time cleaning when I was actually home. But when I get the summers off, I still plan on using her. It's been a lifesaver for me. I haven't touched a bathroom or mopped a floor and it's been wonderful. Well worth the expense!

I used to get a cleaning lady 2x/month when the babies were first born - it was great! Now (don't shoot me), I have a live in housemaid who does all the laundry, cleaning and meals.

I had weekly cleaning from around the time I had my miscarriage (Nov. '05), through my twin pregnancy and after, in the US and back in the Netherlands. Now I have a full time live in helper who cleans, cooks, irons and babysits, 6 days a week ... very lucky!

In terms of cost, in the US I paid $80 for our duplex (about 2250 square foot), 3 ladies, 1 1/2-2 hours hard working. In Europe I paid euro 10 per hour (so euro 40 in total).

I wish we could have a house keeper... I hate cleaning!!!

I do deep bathroom cleaning every other week or so, and light ones in between. We sweep once a week or so, but our floors are disgusting whatever we do because our dogs bring dirt from outside... but once the babies start being all over I'll definitely end up washing every 3 days or something. For now they're in their own area and that doesn't get too dirty.

Honestly in my case it's not lack of time, I just loathe cleaning, and with the dogs everything gets really dirty again in one day so it seems like a lost cause anyway!

We try to keep the house tidy, luckily for us the house does not get a lot of dust, so we dust and vacuum every two weeks. The bathrooms do get a deep clean every week and the kitchen gets swept every day and mopped once a week (the floor gets sticky because the kids love to throw their sippy cups on it). DH is very helpful with cleaning, so that makes it much easier. I found once the twins got older and could entertain themselves, I could get more done cleaning wise. We did try having a cleaning lady once a month but it was too much money, so we stopped that.

I do all the cleaning although the deep stuff doesn't get done as often as I'd like it to. I vaccum almost everyday and keep the toys under control, I clean the kitchen at night before bed. I do 1 load of laundry everyday but don't always get it folded and put away the same day. I usually clean the bathrooms on the weekends when DH can watch the kids for me and steam mop the floors 2-3 times a week. Before I had kids and was working fulltime I had a cleaning lady but now I just don't want to spend the money on one. My house in not nearly as clean as I would like but I do my best.

I have a cleaning crew. Because when DH said he'd do it, he didn't do it. I'm actually contemplating getting rid of my cleaning service in the new year, to save some money and I think I'm ready to take it back over.

It's simply not getting done on a regular basis in our house.

We have major organizational issues that prevent easy cleaning. When I returned home from the hospital after 7 weeks of bedrest (plus 6 weeks at home), our home was wrecked. A family member had tried to come in and tidy and do some deep-cleaning, but she inadvertantly made things worse by not putting things where they belonged. And as the three older kids outgrew their clothing, that didn't get taken care of. Stuff like that. And well. . . I've tried to clean and declutter and re-organize, but I don't have the time. I also made the choice that I wanted to breastfeed both babies exclusively, and that's terribly time-consuming. Also, just trying to keep up with the older kids schoolwork and activities, there's no time! My husband doesn't really clean at all. We're all too busy and tired.

It's just dirty and cluttered here. For 6 months, it's been horrific, to be honest with you. I can't afford to hire someone.

I am a bit ocd (undiagnosed, lol) but I hate clutter and cant relax if things arent clean and tidy-so I pick up and clean daily...now the deep cleaning and bathroom floors dont get done often-maybe twice a month on a good month-dh and I both woh so it has just had to be put off-spending time with the kids has taken priority. Ah well...

I am a SAHM, and DH works fulltime, so most of the cleaning gets done by me, when I do it. I worry mostly about the laundry, dishes and vaccum. I do have a lively house, 3 kids, 5 cats, 2 dogs, 1 rabbit and 2 snakes, plus hubby and me and assorted teenaged friends of older son. Messy!!! I will often clean once the babes are in bed, at 730 or 800pm, and during nap time. Or while they are awake, throw a load in the washer etc.

I've been thinking about hiring someone to come in every 2 weeks tho, but need to talk with the money boss man lol!!

I clean the house. DH picks up but he doesn't really clean. I just do it when I can, and not often enough!

I am glad I am not the only one in this situation! The dogs make everything so dirty so fast - it really does seem like a lost cause!

My DH does help clean when he's home...he usually does the floors (vaccuum, mop) and I try to do most of the other stuff through out the week. But not everything gets done every week...
