Thought this might be a fun topic for those whose babies listen to white noise. I have the Hush Little Baby CD and mine seem to prefer the nature sounds. We've been listening to the sound of a rushing creek and birds in the background. I leave it on until the morning when they wake up. What do your babies listen to and how long do you leave it on for?

We have a white noise machine with about 15 different sounds. When they were tiny we used "ocean waves" (sort of a rhythmic WHOOSH WHOOSH), but at about 3 months, we switched to "rain," which is more constant. The whoosh whoosh was driving me crazy! I can tune out the rain a lot better.

DH also tried downloading a "white noise" mp3 (which just sounds like static), burning it to a CD and putting it on continuous repeat, but that REALLY drove me nuts. Plus, there is an instant of silence every time the CD ends, which always woke me up if I was sleeping in the room with them.

My girls like the waterfall sound & the birds. I think it is because they have the fp aquarium for the crib. I just recently bought a sound machine and it has several different sounds but I like the running stream one & it has a hour timer and I got it form walmart for $15.

After reading about all the lovely nature sounds that are soothing other babies I think my poor babies are deprived - they get the oh so high class "box fan on high turned towards the wall" sound! But it works like a charm and blocks out just about everything!!

Oh they are not deprived. My 11 dd still sleeps with her fan on thanks to me. I slept with one on for years. That was the hardest thing to adjust to after marriage.

My girls have a sound machine on the ocean waves setting. I like hearing it through the monitor at night because it relaxes me too.

We use a loud air purifier in both nurseries. They wont sleep without it running. I think this is a bad thing but what can you do?

loud vacuum cleaner when downstairs for daytime naps (i turn it off after about 10 minutes). humdifier and "rain on the roof" recording (on repeat) in the nursery at night. that vacuum cleaner has been a lifesaver during these early fussy weeks (and there is one spot on my carpet that is incredibly clean :) )!

My babies love the rain one and it drowns out my very loud house. My older two kids are so loud.

Vacume cleaner (real or recorded) - is a LIFESAVER if we are having a random fussy day (and for picture days!). At night we used the baby sleep system cd -- its kind of slow music to a heartbeat, and woshing sound.

both of mine have the fp aquarium and have always went to bed w/ the waterfall noise. since they can change and play w/ it...i sometimes find it on music or whatever suits them at that time.

for naps, i have always used the mobile...i wanted them to know the difference between naps and bedtime...not sure if it helped, but it made me happy :)

A very close friend of mine is a singer, While I was pregnant I attended many of his concerts. Now that the babies are born I pop in one of his CD's during nap time and it lulls them to sleep with his familiar voice.

ditto!!! but mine don't even have a box fan! it's just a small fan - but it blocks out all noise from the rest of the house!

We have the humidifier as our white noise, I shut it off one night and none of us could sleep, especially me, I was up at every sound the girls made. And I have wicked noisy sleepers! haha
And when the girls are particularly fussy, I will turn on the music or the vacuum and they'll calm down and fall asleep! :)
