Both twins have been sleeping with a fan in their rooms as white noise since they were born, really helps them to sleep. However, with winter now approaching, I think it is too cold to run the fan in their rooms. I am interested in a white noise machine...any suggestions?

They sell them at Target. I just purchased "ambient white noise for kids" on itunes and put it on a CD. I have it on my ipod too so I can use the docking speaker in their room.

We have this one in each of their rooms.

Target used to have a Homedics one for about $15 that many people recommended. However, after 5 trips to Target during which they were always "out of stock," I gave up and bought the next-cheapest one, which was $30. It has a clock radio function that we never use, but other than that it's fine.

IMO simpler is better. They really don't need a selection of 20 different sounds, since you'll just pick one and use the same one all the time!

We use a (cheap box) fan too. I'm in chilly MN, so I have it up against a wall (in the corner across from their cribs) blowing towards the wall. The air doesn't circulate, and it actually increases the white noise just a bit!!

So if you don't want to spend more $$, you could give this a try too!

HERE is a thread I started a few weeks ago with the same question. I got lots of good replies! I ended up buying the Brookstone one after reading reviews of some others on amazon.com HTH :)

I have 3 white noise machines for the kids, all of them are a Marpac 980 I bought on Ebay. They were $50 a piece with free shipping, but they plug in and run all night. I would love one for my room, but I'm afraid I would sleep through crying kids.

We use the bathroom vent or fan over our stove. Our twins have a bathroom in their bedroom, though. That makes it easier. During naptime, though, I use the fan over the stove. It's worked for all three of my children.
