now that the AC is done with, i am in the market for a white noise machine...i love their air conditioner. i can do things around the house, watch TV and not have to worry about the kids waking up.

i always have a humidifer in their room but believe it or not, when it bubbles, it wakes them up.

any recs for a humidifier or a white noise machine? do all humidfiers go, blub blub blub, lol?

I have a homedics sound machine and it is fabulous!!! The kids can't hear anything with it on. It has several sounds, but I keep it on rain. I like hearing it through the monitor too!

I got something like this (it was a few years ago and I can't find the exact one but this one is most like it)for my boys room. Its pretty quiet but enough so they can't hear whats going on outside their door. If I forget to turn it on .. they remind me !

I used a fan and that helped my two.

I just have a basic sound machine I bought for $10 at Target or Walmart years ago. I also keep it on the rain sound. I love it! They sleep through just about anything!

Of course, the downside is that my mom used a fan when I was really little and now I can't sleep without some sort of white noise and I'm sure I'm setting the kids up to be the same way.

Oh, and I don't know about most humidifiers, but the one we used to use made that same gurgle sound every few minutes or so.

We use a white noise machine *and* a humidifier (or a fan in the summer)! I don't know if I'm setting them up for "bad habits" but it's a life-saver when you have to get things done around the house after they go to bed. We have the Homedics white noise machine (we like "rain" here too! :wavey:). I'm not sure what the brand of humidifier is, but it doesn't really gurgle (or if it does, it doesn't wake them).

I use the Homedics sound machine for my 3 yo DS on Waterfall & my babies (18 mos) had one also but it broke, so instead of spending another $25 on a new one we put a radio in their room on an AM station that's all static. They love it! When I tell them its time to go night-night they run in their room & turn it on - lol! My kids all like theirs blasting loud which works out well because we have a noisy house, dogs that bark, & a 3 yo that only has one volume - LOOOUUD!! - and they sleep thru everything! I got the idea to use the radio from Happiest Baby on the Block - you should try it! :)

I use a Honeywell HHT-011 Air Purifier. This one is great because it has 3 speeds (for varying noise level) and it has a night light. I love it for my twins and have since bought another one for our new baby. Many places sell it, but Amazon has it for the cheapest.

We use a Honeywell air purifier in the nursery too, though a different model. I figure it makes a good white noise machine AND will also filter the particulates and what not (plus it has a little night light too). I have slept with a white noise machine since I was a teenager, but I hate anything other than the "air" sound. So while we also have a lullaby sound machine that we set to play for a bit just before our LOs bedtime I don't have it play music all night (lullabies or rain or wind). I figure something like that might eventually grate on their nerves like it would mine, LOL. Though I know many babies sleep just fine to that kind of noise. I guess it is whatever you get used to. Oh, and when winter is here we will break out their humidifiers too, but the one we have doesn't make much noise at all (a green frog humidifier bought from Target).

During the summer we run a fan plus white noise and during the winter we run a humidifier plus white noise. The bubbling of the humidifier has not woken our LOs that I'm aware. We use this machine: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4309325 and DH just commented yesterday that it has paid for itself 100x over (I think it's actually cheaper at Walmart than BRU). The NICU recommended white noise because the boys had been in that noisy environment for so long. We've used it since day 1 all night long and during naps (I believe it helps signal to the boys that it's time for sleep). I doubt they'd sleep w/o it (DH and I have always run a fan during the night, so no one around here is used to complete silence). This particular one has a nightlight which we also use and an MP3 port which we haven't used, but it's a cool feature. These things pretty much drown out any other noise going on in the house (vacuum, etc.).

We have always used fans...our kids love sleeping with the sound, and we have the monitor still in our room so we benefit from it as well. I can't sleep with it too quite in the house!
