Which Maternity Belt Brand/Model

    Hi,

There are lots of posts on here about which type of maternity belt is best, but I can't find one which lists specific brands or names of belts. I have the mini-cradle, which is helpful, but I would imagine I'll soon need more support. Some people say they have the "'one from motherhood" but there are several. I'm wondering specifically which one. For those of you who have found them to be lifesavers (so many of you have said they changed your ability to do so many things!) - which brand/model do you recommend?

Also - would you wear it in the summer? I'm due late July/August...I'm wondering how one of those will feel when its 90 degrees outside!

    Thanks! :friends:

My previous post didn't get any hits, so I'll try to be more specific. Do you think it would be better to purchase a maternity belt that goes over the shoulders (but is otherwise light and comfortable) such as this one: Best Cradle...or one that goes simply around the waste (but is larger and perhaps more cumbersome) such as this one: EZ Mom Maternity Belt?

I am having some sciatic pain but also find myself holding up my abdomen with my hands from time to time, because the lower part is tender. But I'd like to be comfortable in my clothes...and summer is coming!

    Thanks ladies

Funny, I was going to post this exact question last night but you beat me to it! I, too, would LOVE some recommendations. SO many people use them, so please, pretty please will you share what works and why?

I had the second version, where there's a large belt that velcros around your belly. I found it very useful and supportive. It was, however, bulky and somewhat irritating if I didn't get it in the exact right position. The bulk didn't matter because I was wearing winter clothes. If you'll be pregnant for a decent proportion of the summer, I'd recommend getting the over the shoulder version. I like the pictures and it think it looks quite supportive.

Actually, whichever version you get, you'll like. The maternity belt helped me so much; I think everyone should at least try one.

I purchased mine from BRU, brand is "Especially for Mom." It's a strappy thing that comes in three pieces and uses velcro to fasten and adjust the fit. I started off totally loving it, as I was pretty darn uncomfortable and needed some relief ASAP. It definitely provided me with the support I wanted and it was heaven compared to wearing nothing at all. I wore a long T-shirt or tank under the belt as it tended to be scratchy and hot, then my regular shirt over it.

I bought the Medium, as my pre-preggo size fit well within the range stated on the box. It did seem bulky even without the undershirt on and tended to bunch up, but I'm kinda short (5'3) so that may be why I felt that way. Also, the velcro tabs on the back panel were too wide where they attach to the belly panel, so I had to turn them under or they would scratch something fierce and tear up my shirt. The belly panel liked to "ride up" on my torso too. That added to the bulk.

Anyway, it was fine for a couple of weeks, but I must have had a major growth spurt because it's not so fine anymore. I now feel that it's way too constricting to wear. So instead of coughing up another $30 for the next size which didn't please me seeing as I only have about 10 weeks to go, I got to thinking. I grabbed one of those 6" wide elastic Ace bandages already in my medicine cabinet and wrapped it securely around my abdomen for support, and, voila! I have been wearing the Ace bandage for the last few days and am FAR more comfortable than I ever was in the maternity belt. I even wear it at night. It's easier to put on, and it provides the support I need in the lower belly (for now at least) without being too constricting. A second Ace bandage over top of the first seems to provide even more support, but I don't really need it right now...maybe in a few weeks.

So, that's what works for me. YMMV, but I wish I had started off with the $9 Ace bandage first before spending the money on a belt that I didn't get that much use out of. You never know. Perhaps I would have been happier with the belt had I bought the next size up to begin with. Some people just love 'em. There are reviews out there on both the pro side and the con side, so you may wish to peruse those before you make your purchase. Good luck and HTH!

I bought a belt by gabriella on Amazon.com. The hardest part to the order was deciding which size to order so I went with large and I think it will be good for me until delivery. I like it, it helps me and I don't think it's hot at all. It was around $30 and I think it does help me feel more confident about doing things cause it takes some of the weight off of my hips so I am pretty happy with it. Good luck and you can always return them if you need be I think.

I am still wearing one that is a pre-maternity belt. Got it from the physical therapist that was treating my pregnancy related lower back problems. I should probably not use it anymore as I definitely cannot sit down while wearing it - too restricting. But it works for standing up to make dinner and things like that. My physical therapist also recommended the ace bandage. I think that is a great idea! Good luck!

I got the one from Motherhood Maternity. Put "maternity belt" in the search portion of shopping and it will come up. Has been a life saver for my sciatica and everything else. I still use it everyday.

I have the "especially for mom" belt from Babies R Us and so far so great. I really like it...although I'm not sure how it will be when I'm closer to term? The over the shoulder one you posted looks like it would drive me crazy to have an X crossing my boobs...I have big boobs (I'm in an E cup nursing bra right now), so it would look funky under clothes and I think it would be uncomfortable...the ACE bandage option sounds interesting though and I might try that out!

I had back surgery about 13 years ago and I was very worried about getting pregnant, let alone with twins. In my first pregnancy, I didn't need a "support belt" but my sister gave me one anyway. Well, this pregnancy, I don't know what I would have done without it. There have been days when I want a "break" from wearing it... BIG MISTAKE! I can't even walk past 1pm if I dont wear it. I use it all day long, and put it on first thing in the morning. I have the basic "maternity belt" from Motherhood and it has helped both my back pain, and my "crotch" pressure pain.

    I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Therapy-Best-Buys-Mo...2195&sr=8-2

I really like it, but it does get hot. I'm 33 weeks, so I won't have much longer with it. It also might be hot because I tend to wear the high belly pants with a tank or belly tube over top to make sure the belt doesn't show. It really has helped. I haven't worn it this past week (misplaced it) and my back is killing me. I don't wear the back support part while driving. Often, I leave the belt off while in the car and put it on when I get to work or wherever I'm going. It sits funny with the angle of the seats in the car.

I did not like the mini cradle. I preffered the motherhood brand - the velcro made the difference!
