I bought a Step2 kitchen & didn't like it - the screws are covered with white plastic caps that are supposed to snap over the screw. They don't stay snapped & my baby girls learned you can twist them & the cap breaks off. My BIL sent them the Dora kitchen- it has a lot of fun food but is not very cute IMO. I bought them the Pottery Barn Kids Retro Pink kitchen - it is by far the cutest & looks best as a permanent part of the playroom - the only downside is the high price tag.

We have this one from Little Tikes and my kids love it. I originally wanted one of the nice wooden sets, but I realized that it would be too heavy (might fall on them) and tougher to clean. This set is neutral colored (some of them were just hideous and since it's in our dining room, I wanted to be happy looking at it all day), is very sturdy and isn't too big. Overall, we are very happy with it and my kids play with it every day. HTH!

Ours is a Little Tikes kitchen that has an ironing board-washer/dryer combo attached. It folds for several configurations and if you want, it makes sounds when you turn the stove or dryer on (I deactivated it, first because it upset Melissa  and secondly because it's totally unnecessary and burns batteries). I chose it because it folds so one could play on each side, but in the end we put it flat against the wall. They barely even touch the laundry center. They LOVE the kitchen.

So...my advice is get a kitchen, no laundry attachments. :FIFblush: (Maybe since they've never seen me iron, they really have no clue what to do with it).

Get lots of cabinets to hold lots of fake food -- we're putting ours in the washer and dryer right now. :FIFblush:

If I had it to do again, I'd get one of the nice wooden ones.

I got lucky & found an awesome wooden set at a 2nd hand store......fridge, stove & sink for $125. And it came fully stocked with tons of play foods, plates, etc. They're painted, so the finish is pretty glossy & easy to clean. If you go for a wooden set, I wouldn't get an unpainted kind; it'd be hard to clean.

My babies love playing with it, all the time. The only thing that I don't like about it is the door on the oven opens up & DS likes to stand on it. I've put a rolled up blanket underneath so it doesn't tip, but I just need to find some kind of hook or something to kind of bolt it to the wall & then it should be just fine. But they are definitely something worth investing in b/c they'll play with them for years. I remember having one when I was a kid & playing with it are some of my best childhood memories! The one I found appears to be really well made & I'm hoping it will last for years & years......I might even keep it around for grandkids! :) I looked, but unfortunately I wasn't able to find a link, so I took a pic instead:

All the little knobs & everything turn, too. It's so cute!

We have the little tikes inside/outside grill, kitchen set. We like it because my husband approved of it. He was a little leary when I bought a kitchen set for the boys, but thought it was okay since there was a grilling side. It also makes lots of interactive noises. The microwave door already broke though(bummer).

We got a small Little Tikes Side by Side kitchen. We didn't have tons of room for a large one, but this one is big enough for two kids to play with at once. And it was on the cheaper side, compared to most of them.

We also got the Little Tikes Side by Side kitchen too. I like it because it's not too big, and at TRU it was arounf $70, then the others were around $170. There is no way my boys would get an extra $100 of fun out of a bigger one, I figured, so we went with the Side by Side.

The only problem is that when they get frustrated or mad about something, they will push it over because they know they aren't supposed to. I yell a lot about that kitchen. But then again, they make mama "coffee" on it all the time too so that's worth it. :)

It looks like the one that my girls have is not available anymore. It sounds a lot like the one that Marie's girls have. It folds or you can keep it flat against the wall but that's the only way to adjust it. It has a kitchen and laundry side but the whole thing winds up being used to cook on. I chose this one because they both have enough room to play at the same time without pushing and there is lots of storage for all the fake food. They got it when they were two and they still use it.

OMG, how funny. We experience the same thing, but man, my kids can "make" a mean cup of coffee for me!!!

We have this one too. The noises scared them at first. THey like it though, but it's not a favorite toy. Maybe it will be when they get older and understand what it's really for. They like the play food and cups and bowls and stuff though. Mine too like ot open all the doors and stand on them...what is that about kids...lol!

We also have the Little Tike Side by Side kitchen, and it's working out great for us. Not much room for storing dishes/cookware/play food, but we have some bins next to it that we use for that.

What's really cool about mine is that apparently coffee comes directly out of the tap! I want that in my kitchen!
