I'm debating over these two items.

    We have already purchased these.
    http://www.step2.com/product.cfm?product_i...D5D9F54A2D46E0E
We got a pink one and a green one. I REALLY wanted 2 pink, but if we ever have a boy, I don't think he would be too thrilled to have a pink bike as a hand-me-down!

Then, I was thinking about trikes and would like to get them nicer ones next year (ones that are adjustable and will last them longer). So, I found these Dora bikes at Target.

I'm only getting one or the other...which do you think I should get? I have the receipts and stuff to take the motorcycles back if I choose that route.

Or, do I keep one motorcyle and get one trike? Am I in for a big fight if we do it that way?

i would keep the motorcycles. for the very reason that you got the green one in the first place. -- if you ever have a boy.

FWIW, we got the girls the kettler brummi trikes. they cannot pedal them. they don't have the concept of pushing with alternate feet to propel themselves. I think it may take ALL SUMMER to get that figured out.

i would get them the same item, different colors. allows for ownership and then you know if one stole the other's toy or not when they come complaining. ;)

I'm not to that stage yet, but I was going to say get one of each. But like I said I'm not to that stage yet and don't know if that would cause too many problems. They are both cute though.

My kids play with the motorcycle one at our Mommy and Me class and LOVE it! In fact, I saw one in a catalog last week and wanted to order it, but I wasn't sure if our kids are getting too old for it. My ONLY concern, is that without the pedals, they might outgrow it too fast. Mine are the youngest in the class (by 4 months or so) and they are the only ones that ever play with it. The others are ALL riding the bikes and tricycles.

As for the tricycle, it is hard to tell but the pedals look really far away from the seat. This could be a good thing or a bad thing...the good thing is that they will be able to use it as a ride on toy and then as a pedal toy. The bad thing is that they might not be able to reach the pedals, get frustrated, and not want to ride them.

I know that probably didn't help much...but I am just sharing my first thoughts.

I could have written this post. We have a hand-me-down hot wheels Jr. and they can barely reach the pedals now at 2.5 years, but they can't figure out how to pedal. I show them all the time, but they just don't get it yet. They push along with their feet instead. I'll have to check out those motorcycles!! And I agree, 2 of different colors... :)

That's a tough one. My boys just got the hang of pedalling really well last year (around 4), before that it was hit and miss. That was once they could actually reach the pedals, my kids might just have short legs but it took awhile for them to comfortably reach the pedals.

But I agree with PP that with the motorcycles once they get a little bigger they'll get bored of pushing with their feet.

I'd probably plan ahead and get the trikes, that way they are growing into something instead of out of something. If you're worried about a possible boy in the future getting a hand me down "girl" bike you could go with something more gender neutral.

I would probably keep the motorcycles and just wait to get them tricycles when they are able to pedal. We've been trying to get our kids to learn to pedal, but they really just don't get the hang of it.

Yes, if your twins are like mine... there will be a huge SCREAMING fight.

I could take a picture of my living room and yard, and everything I have sitting around there are two of everything (the same everything's) LOL

LOL, after I wrote that I though, "That was a dumb thing to ask!" Of COURSE they will fight...it's a disaster now if they want the same toy, even if there is one similar! We had 4 gloworms b/c they are addicted to them and they keep brreaking. 2 are a newer version, 2 are an older version and they KNOW the difference! AHHH!!! Drives me nuts!

I really like the motorcycles. I think that at that age my girls would have loved them too. We have tricycles here but they weren't able to pedal them at 2 years old. Whatever you decide, get two of the same to avoid fighting. :)

The reviews on the Dora tricycle, said that their two year olds had a hard time reaching the pedals, so they would probably be more of a push tricycle. My girls already got tricycles and they sit on them and wait for me to push them around. It's fine but I get kind of tired doing it. The motorcycles they could do themselves, and had good ratings, except for 3 people who said their kids got bored easily. Good luck

I bought the second one for Joy, but it is the Barbie one. (pink and white) She desperately wanted a bike like her brothers. She turned two in March and can not reach the pedals. She tries, bless her heart, but she her legs are too short. So she just pushes it with her feet. (And she is in the 90% for height, so she is tall for her age) She has fun with it, but will do much better next year.

All that to say, you might want to wait, your little ones might not be able to use it for a while.

I would keep the first ones. Like others said, it is very hard for a two year old to pedal. We have a tricycle from my older two and my youngest (almost 2) cannot reach the pedals and even if she could, I am not sure whe would know what to do.

I think the Step 2 quality is better as well so they will last longer!

I am thinking about getting the Dora Tricycles for my girls. I do not think they would be able to peddle it now but I would rather get something that they can grow into. I think they could push themselves with their feet now and continue to use it when they can peddle it. For my girls, I would get two identical of whatever we chose or we would have constant fighting.

Thanks for posting about the motorcycles. I have been pondering what to buy my twins for their 2nd birthday.

We have a barbie bigwheel sort of like your dora one and my twins cant reach the pedals so they just push it.

I would forgo getting one and not even get a trike because by next year they should be able to pedal a regular 2 wheeler with training wheels.

My older DD was pedaling around a 2 wheeler with training wheels at 2.5.

I would definitely go with 2 motorcycles. I am. :p

We have the Dora bike and a boy one (I forget what it is) and mine are just getting the hang of peddling. They got them for their second birthday at the end of January. I personally like those better than the motorcycles as I think they will play with the tricycle's much longer (once they get the hang of it) than the motorcycles.

    Good luck in your decision.

I have dd's red radio flyer trike and Josh can peddle already!!! I was so surprised! He could not pedal in February when we went to visit my parents in Sunny FL from frigid VT. But dh took him out in the driveway and he caught on well in no time! But we only have one so far so I have not had time alone with Zach to see if he can do it. MIL has a similar trike for us but has not brought it up yet. So like you all said about having the same type of thing (here id is not necessary but similar), the trike is put away when both boys are outside. Dd got it at 2.5 and figured it out that summer. OMG I can remember her pedaling that like it was yesterday (5 years ago now!!!). But trikes are diff than the big wheel thingies you linked in your post.

So I would skip the motorcycle (not fond of them anyways) and the big wheel and get a trike with a push bar. B)

ths is the trike we have older version though. Handle is a little different. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=b...asin=B0009NX07S

ETA: My neighbors son who is almost 8 but small, STILL rides his big wheel!! Its bigger than the one you linked but not much!!! B)

Can they pedal? If not, motercycles. If they can I would get the other ones.

    THey are both very cute!!

We got oldest a Barbie tricycle/big wheel that are prtty similar when she was 2 and she is now just able to really reach the pedals at 3 1/2. She probably learned to pedal really good around 3 yrs.
We have a winnie the pooh tricycle that we bought for her when she was around 15 months old. It has a detachable parent handle, footrest, etc. The twins LOVE riding on this now. I wish we would have purchased two, but who knew we would have twins!?!? I guess they don't make them anymore. The radioflyer is pretty similar, but I remember that this one seemed much sturdier (unless they put it together wrong at the store!)

My adivice is to take them to the store and see what they like better. I do that with every thing I don't get it right then but just let them play to see if it is worth my money and space in my house ..lol.

    Good luck

I agree. I found my older son a kettler trike w/a push bar at a consignment shop and it's been great. He got the hang of pedaling before he was three and he still rides it in our driveway all the time.

I may be in the minority, but there is no way we are getting two of everything for our twins, affordable or not. All three of our boys have to learn to share what we have. I bought ONE John Deere ride on tractor for them to share and it works out great. One will get on and the other will push and then they'll switch. It may be harder right now because they will fight over something they want at the same time, but it's teaching them self-control and limits which is huge.

Mine definitely have THEIR stuff. They'll share, but one is Ali's and one is Martin's....just the way it is. (I didn't read responses, hope I'm not duplicating :) )

I would get the little motorcycles. Mine got trikes at 2 and they can't even begin to ride them (not to mention they hardly get to get on them since DH is out of town all week and the weekends are super busy) so I would get the one's that they can scoot and not worry about bikes/trikes etc. till later. Just my .03 (inflation! ;) )
