Hi Ladies, I havent been to active lately due to the fact that I got laid off from my job and I totally forgot what my username, password was to this site, couldnt get any email responses because I was using my work email address at the time...but somehow I finally figured it out just now!!! Anyways, I am proud to say that I am now 30 weeks and 3 days! So here is my question for you all: How do you tell which baby is A and which baby is B?? My OB never assigned a letter to the twins. All i know is at my last ultrasound which was last tuesday, my girl which is on my right is breech and my son who is on the left is head down. I know i still have a while to go so I am hoping she will turn herself. I am so afraid to have the c-section mainly because I do have three other kiddos to care for and I am the only one that has a CDL until March when DH can get his back. Oh and btw, my OB said that I need to try to lose some weight! I've gained 50 lbs but he said I need to lose it or I'll most likely end up with a c-section. He always says this to me even with my last two pregnacies which i gave birth naturally anyways, despite my son being born at 11 lbs and my daughter who was 4 weeks early weighing 8 lbs. And no I do not have GD! I just have big babies i guess...anyways, I just cut out the sugar...well at least a lot of it, mainly ice cream...lol and I did lose 5 lbs... Thanks Roxie
i was told from the beginning that baby A was on my right and B was on my left. And that is the order they are checked in at every u/s i have had. i dont know if thats the standard for it or not. 23W6D mono/di boys
Baby A is closest to the cervix and Baby B is farthest away. They count up from which ones are closest to the cervix and would be born first. So baby a would come out first and so on. But I have heard that sometimes Baby B likes to jump ahead of baby a and come out first.
First, baby A is called A because the head is closest to the cervix, thus the first one out. So, whichever baby is head down closest to your cervix that one is technically A. If both babies are breech, i am not sure how they decide who is who unless one os closer to the cervix. That I do not know! A and B can and often does change several times during pregnancy so it is really not important in the womb. It's actually not important at all in the long run. Mine stayed A and B the entire pregnancy due to their placement in my uterus, baby A was very low, head down and B was high, like they were in bunk beds! They were almost always like this even when flipping around. As for losing weight, you should never loose weight on purpose while pregnant! Especially in the last few weeks when the babies are gaining the most weight. Some doctors are just really old fasioned and tend to think women should only gain 15 lbs with a pregnancy. Well, they also used to smoke and drink while pregnant and that wasn't so good either was it?! The average weight gain for a twin pregnancy is 45lbs. If you usually have big babies, you will gain more. If you're typically overweight to begin with, you may want to gain a little less. However, I personally believe you will gain what you need to gain because it is what your bady needs to do to have a healthy baby or babies. I gained 58lbs with my singleton, he was born 4 weeks early and weighed 8lbs 3oz. He was and always has been healthy. With the twins I gained 48lbs, they were 5wks 6days early and weighed 6lbs 4oz and 5lbs 9oz, also healthy. I immediately ( in a couple of weeks) lost all the weight after both pregnancies ( but not the extra weight I was carrying around before I got pregnant!), so I know it was the right amount of weight for my body and my babies. Every person is different and doctors need to be more aware of this. Guidelines and recommendations are just that guidelines. They are strict rules you must follow or else. You are likely not going to gain tons of unnecessary weight for the rest of your pregnancy because of a lack of room for food! Most people gain up to 1lb a week in the last few weeks because the babies are gaining so fast to prepare for birth, but that's not unreasonable weight gain. Some people actually lose weight in the last few weeks of pregnancy and that is fine too as long as you aren't dieting to lose and possibly affecting the health of their baby/babies. Just eat healthy and enjoy the last few weeks of being pregnant! Good luck with everything. Kelly
QUOTE(Courtney2 @ Jan 10 2009, 12:34 AM) Baby A is closest to the cervix and Baby B is farthest away. They count up from which ones are closest to the cervix and would be born first. So baby a would come out first and so on. But I have heard that sometimes Baby B likes to jump ahead of baby a and come out first. Yep, baby A can change from u/s to u/s because it's always the one that's closest to the cervix. My first u/s my girl was baby A, ever since then tho my boy is baby A. Unless they spontaneously switched sexes, they switched positions And WOW I can't believe your ob told you to lose weight!! There's nothing wrong with cutting out sugar and eating healthier but please please don't diet and lose weight, your baby is putting all it's weight on right now and if you are dieting, your baby is dieting, and your babies don't need to diet at all! I'm in shock your ob said that!
My Perinatologist's office and my OB office call the babies the opposite and continue to do so. The Peri said that my PLACENTA for the baby on my left is closest to my cervix so they call that baby Baby A and my OB office calls the baby on my right Baby A because her HEAD is closest to my cervix. My Peri said they use the placenta methodology because the placenta doesn't move but the babies do. Oh well, I just call them Left Baby and Right Baby
They also told me baby A was the closest to the cervix. But FYI if you have c section that can change. You're having a boy and a girl so it's not a huge deal, but while I was pregnant baby A was my smaller baby and Grandt. Well when I had the section baby B presented first and came out as baby A. I don't know if that makes sense but it was very confusing when we named them. I said which ever one came out first was Grandt and all along we called him Grayson! As for the weight lose, that is absurd!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! and YAY for being back on TS!! I think it it strange that your dr told you to loose weight!! I mean to ask you not to drink juices or eat much sugar is one thing but to loose weight?? I would just cut back on sugary and fatty foods but I would not try to loose weight right now if I were you, If I cut back and ate healthy and lost ok but if not at least I was eating healthy and keeping my babies and myself healthy!! Sounds like your babies are going to be big no matter what you do!
I have also been told the same....at my first ultrasound they were labeled baby A and B based on who was "presenting".....which one was closer to the cervix....B tried to take over once but A has fought to stay first in line. HOWEVER, my sister works in L and D said, that if they happen to somehow change at the last minute or if you have a C-section and B (or who you have been thinking of as B) comes out first.....he/she will be called A at the delivery. First one out at delivery is A,....second one out at delivery is B...it doesn't matter if that's not necessarily the way they were inside. I know that sounds confusing, but that's my understanding of it. This is kinda a big deal to me because I"m having 2 girls and we named Baby A, Sarah (on my left) and Baby B, Rachael (on my right). So I just don' t want them to get mixed up at birth. Not that it REALLY matters, but I already have this fear of mixing them up. I think they are fraternal so hopefully they will look different enough so that it won't be a big issue. So my doctor told me to remind them the day of the C-section that I want to keep track of who was on my left and right. She said it's pretty common for people to wan to know which one was which. shannon
They assigned the baby on the Right - A since she is closest to my cervix and then never changed that designation. I hope nothing gets changed during my c-section!
