Poor Mia - she is 14 months and only 17 pounds. Her height is pretty much on track for a 14 month old. The poor kid is wearing high water pants everyday!! I went shopping today and at Gap she is technically still in the 3-6 month weight category!! At Janie and Jack she is in 6-12 months.

Where do you buy pants for your skinny kids? Unfortunately adjustable pants at Old Navy don't start till 18 months :(

Do you know anyone in California who can go to Mervyn's for you? They carry "Sprockets" and I believe it's their store brand. Very, very skinny waisted pants -- love 'em!

I've noticed that Target clothing runs small, maybe they'll have something that will work. :)

My son is a skinny minny too. He is 29 mos old and still wears 6-12 mo shorts and 9-12 mo pants. The 9 mo pants are finally starting to look like high waters, but the 12 mo are sooo huge in the waste they fall down. Old Navy runs huge and even with the adjustabs they are still so big, although their sporty stuff is not so bad. Target stuff is really the only ones that seem to work for us. H&M stuff works good, if you buy smaller bc they run huge too! I haven't had that problem looking for girls stuff yet bc McKenna fits perfectly into an 18 mo clothing.

    Good luck!

I just bought DD Old Navy adjustable waist in 12-18 mo size...they are called "skinny jeans" (yes thats really on the label)...they are boot cut so she has to wear them with shoes but the waist is ok - although I do have to crank them up to the laaaast button hole....

My skinny one fits best in babystyle pants - they tend to run long. They have great sales - I just wait for deep discounts in the outlet section online.

    Best,

Try adjustable waist pants. Old Navy, Carter's, and some of Target brand have them. I have a 4T length girl with a 2T waist, and those are the only things that work most of the time. Some of the toddler Kohls brand leggings work, too. I'm not sure about their baby sizes, though.

I also find that Children's Place runs slim on their jeans.

Ditto on the Target rec. I got a great pair of levis with the adjustable waist for the boys.

However, they have a display with some lined "track pants" with a racing stripe down the side. AVOID THESE AT ALL COSTS! I tried the 12 month size. Poor Joe had them around his ankles before he'd crossed ther oom. I returned them for a size 9m (which was on the verge of being too short already)...same issue with the waist band.

I've seen adjustable waist at Old Navy in smaller sizes than 18 months. My girls wear 18 month adjustable wasit and they work great!

But, I had some pants and shorts that we got at the shower and for their birthday, so I couldn't return them, and my MIL altered the waist for me. That worked great too.

    I have a 21 pound 18 month old.

Overalls. That was my only solution last winter for Kayci. I had some leggings that worked too but can't remember what brand.

My girls are 19 months old and both weigh only 22 pounds, but are 34 inches tall. They are wearing 24 month shirts so that they are long enough to cover their bellies and their shorts are 12 months, some of which are still too big in the waist. However, I just bought them some pants and leggings from Target for the fall. They tried them on and the 18 month size actually fits pretty good. One pair was still a little big in the waist, but not too bad. We have found that the Target brands (Circo and Cherokee) pants fit them well, as well as Children's Place (18 month) and Old Navy (12-18 month). I was worried that everything would be really short, but they seem okay. At least they don't look like high-waters yet.

Thanks everyone! I am going to hit up Target today - and I don't know why I didn't look at Children's Place (I was just there buying pajamas!).

Oh - and I didn't even think about altering them!!

Mia thanks you all for saving her from being a fashion don't! :D

altering the waists is REALLY easy - i do this with all cameron's pants - i just sew darts (2 or 4 depending on how oversized) in the waist - usually just behind the seams that go down the legs if that makes sense. the best thing is that it's also easy to let out one dart at a time as they grow!

I usually run into a problem with Target stuff in the waist because if you hold a pair of jeans or even gotton pants, 2T up against the same except smaller size, like 18 month, you'll notice the waist is about the same width, only the length seems to differ. Of course, I'm referring to the Circo brand. I still buy something if I like it and I get a good deal on it. I then get it home and I put a single heavy stitch (by hand) into one side after I fold over the material to create a little hem. Once it starts to seem small in the waist, I let the hem out. I did it with some pajamas that I bought for them last winter too. I do it with just about everything for pants, otherwise they wouldn't be able to wear anything. Emily is super skinny. The child is all leg and a long torso whereas Amber is more just short and frumpy like her mommy. Anyway, that's my solution...to create a little easily let out hem in the waist, either on one side or both. If both sides, then I just let out one side at a time until they can wear them without the hems at all. Both girls weigh 24 lbs and are 29 months old. Long skinny kids.

We have used Children's Place and Nordstom's N-kids brand. The N-kids has elastic waist pants that are long and narrow that have worked well. I don't know how pricey they are because we got a bunch from my friend who got them for her daughter and she never wound up wearing them. It's always a challenge come pants season. Shorts are no big deal because the length isn't as much of a issue. Good luck. I hope you find some good ones.
