Where has our schedule gone?

Hi everyone! This is my first post on the first year forum, but I have been reading and learning a ton over the past 6 weeks.

My twins came home from the NICU (after a one week stay) on a three hour feeding schedule. They kept this schedule wonderfully for weeks. Until recently they were eating 3oz every 3 hours. Now all the sudden, this week the schedule has vanished. During the day, they eat random amounts at random times. Anywhere 2 to 6 ounces every hour to 3 hours. It's kind of driving me nuts. At night they are a bit better, thankfully, mostly keeping to a 3 hour schedule, but then for the past few nights, they won't take a full feeding at 3am - they fall asleep after an ounce or two, which means they inevitably get up again shortly thereafter to eat again. This makes me think that maybe they don't need that feeding as much anymore and we'll be able to eliminate it (or another middle of the night feeding) soon (this is thinking very positively).

In any case, I feel like I'm totally failing at trying to come up with a routine or schedule for these babies when I am an incredibly schedule-oriented person. I know that at 6 weeks, it's not going to be possible to maintain a perfect schedule, but I was hoping it would get better, not worse. Any words of wisdom or support are appreciated!

    Thanks!

At around 6 weeks, babies usually go through a growth spurt, which will make their sleeping and eating habits out of whack, it usually settles down after 2 or 3 days. They also have one around 3 and 6 months old.
You sound like things are going great, well done you[IMG]

Thanks! I hope you're right about things settling after a few days. It's amazing how much/often they are eating!

this is what i was thinking when i was reading your post. hopefully it will be temporary and they will go back to the 3 hour schedule for you. i know i always had a hard time dealing with it when they tried to change their feeding schedule up on me.. it was the one thing that i felt i had some control over...

Thanks guys. I truly hope you guys are right! Elliot was up every 1-2 hours last night SCREAMING for food. Then he'd eat like 1-2oz, fall asleep, rinse, repeat. Oh I hope it's a growth spurt and will be over soon. DH and I usually split night feedings up to maximize sleep for both of us, but last night neither of us got any sleep.

I say growth spurt too. My girls went through pretty much the exact same thing around 6 weeks and it did pass and now that we are coming up on 3 months I feel my one girl is starting again.
