I intended to register..... I really did. But then I got busy with stuff.... and now the next Prepared Childbirth Class isn't until December 11th..... Does anyone have any good suggestions for books or whatever I can do to get myself prepared?

We're first time parents and I'm not terribly experienced with children under 5....

I waited too long to register for the multiples class at the hospital and had to sign up for one that started late in my pregnancy. That class ended up getting canceled! I sent out an email to the members of my local mothers of multiples club and found a different class. Maybe this could work for you?

maybe check different hospitals - another hospital may have a class you could take. If you don't end up finding one - you'll be ok!! with my first ds - the lamaze class I took went right out the window when real labor kicked in anyway! and after the twins were born - I mean I had done this 3 times before = so I THOUGHT I was an expert LOL!! my twins taught me a thing or two hundred thousand! we just do whatever works and don't worry about the "proper" much!! watch Discovery Health's
Birth Story and Baby Story - shows like that, they are pretty good!!

I'm having this same problem. There's only one hospital in the area and I guess that they don't start until your 32nd week or so which really sucks, esp with a twin preg. I went into pre-term labor this last weekend and now am on modified bedrest so I don't know if I'll even get to go to these classes. Luckily I took classes 5 yrs ago with my mom and she was here this weekend to help me. For me the only way a "coach" can really be of use is holding my hand and telling me where I am in the contraction according to the moniter they use, and no trying to talk to me about anything else. Dh learned that the hard way when I snapped at him. Breathing slowly and calmly with me is also a big help for me, but not telling me "how."
Other women like some back rubbing inbetween contractions or feet rubs with lavender oils. Just some thoughts.

My dr said to just really start looking online for some videos and other resources. And I agree with watching the shows as well. Another thing is perhaps to have your dh "practice" with you during a braxton hicks.

Is your mom going to be with you? I know that sounds silly but DH and I didn't really do much for classes because of our mixed schedules and no time. My mom was a huge help to support him and me.

I would look into videos or DVDs from your library cause those helped me a little (mind you, thier whole relaxing part put me to sleep so I didn't watch as good as i should have) or even online!

I posted above and forgot to write that I have hired a doula. I am really looking forward to her support and knowledge!

Uh-oh, I have a feeling this might happen to me, too. I've put it off because (a) I'm still looking into switching hospitals and (b) DH started a new job at the end of August and his schedule's been kind of unpredictable so far. But I really need to get on it!
Best of luck to you; hope you're able to find an alternative class and/or get the info you need another way!

I took your advice and called another hospital. It actually worked out better for us! This hospital is right down the road (the one I'm delivering at is 35 minutes away in Phoenix traffic), $25 cheaper and includes a part on infant care which we were going to take seperately at our hospital.

The only thing we'll have to do is take the OB orientation tour at our own hospital because (duh) the one at the local hospital probably wouldn't be too helpful.

    Thanks so much!!
