Where can I get a fireplace gate?

I have been looking for a safety gate for our fireplace (we're going to start letting the girls into that room) for a few weeks now, but I can't find one. I'd really rather not order one online, but I can't find a store that keeps them in-stock. Does anyone know of any? Thanks!

we actually used the evenflo pressure gate like this one:

    Evenflo gate

    it works like a charm.

I'm sorry; I should have been more clear. Thanks for the idea, but I meant that I needed a gate to surround the entire fireplace, not just to block kids from the fire. We have brick surrounding it, and I don't want the girls climbing onto it and falling into it. Foam won't work around the edges because they could still climb onto it and fall onto one of the flat surfaces and do a lot of damage.

We used a superyard XT and set it in a semi-circle. They sell them at toys r us (and other places, I'm sure!) I'm not sure how old your girls are but we had a lot of success with teaching them that the fireplace is off limits and the fire is HOT! They are now 2.5 and have been allowed in the room without the gate since about 18 months when they really learned that the fire was bad (just really pretty to look at and it keeps us warm). We also don't allow them in that room unless we are there or can see them at all times.

    Good luck!

We also resorted to using the Superyard. We have bookshelves on either side of the fireplace and this was a problem, too. We rarely use our fireplace, so instead of a semi-circle, it's extended flat. We also had to use zip ties because they learned how to pull the gate back and they like to get into the fireplace!

I too needed a fireplace gate, we've got a gas stove in the LR that gets hot.

I also didn't want to order one online, but that's what I ended up doing and honestly, it was cheaper (even with shipping) than the ones I did find around. I used superpages.com and looked up fireplace stores in my area and then called them all. But between their hours and getting out the door with the girls, it really was easier to order it online, lol!

I ended up using the baby center store: Kidco Hearthgate. This was the only 'real' hearth gate I could find.

The BabyCenter Store was phenomenal! It shipped fast and even when the first one arrived damaged (fedex ground's fault) I called them, no hassle, they immediately shipped out another one and arranged for fedex ground to pick up the other one. My second one arrived before they could even come back to get the first one. And they usually have some kind of special going on, either percent off or free shipping. I ordered a bunch of stuff, so I just picked which discount gave me more and used that.

    HTH!

ETA: I love our gate too, it was easy to set up has a gate in the middle so easy access and it's fairly non obtrusive, at least at my house.

I posted a want ad on craigslist for ours & found an awesome one for a great deal! Otherwise, I've seen them at the little stores that sell woodstoves, but they are a lot more expensive than ordering online.

We have the Kidco HearthGate, too. I found it online with free shipping@ BabyCatalog.com. It came really qiuckly, too. We have a big fireplace with a raised stone hearth and we only needed one extra panel. Works great. Good luck.

Another vote for the Kidco Hearthgate. We have it for our gas fireplace and love it. We found it at a local mom and pop fireplace/pellet stove store and got a good deal on it. We paid what most of the online stores wanted and didn't have to deal with shipping costs. DH got out our local phonebook and started calling all the fireplace/pellet stove stores listed and most had at least one in stock-one had 4. The one we bought from was $75 less than the highest quote from another store, so it helps to call around!
