Our boys JUST started clapping a little while ago (finally) but is it normal that they don't clap like adults yet? They put their hands together but almost miss their hands sometimes, hands are not flat and they don't make noise.

I'm guessing this is normal but am just curious what others found when theirs started.

My girls were both clapping around 9 months old. And they definitely didn't make much sound at first. Give it a little while before they actually do it right.

Two of my kids clapped by kind of slapping their palms on the back of their hands up and down. It was adorable.

Mine were right around a year, and yes, they didn't do it right at first! Give them time to practice.

Yup, totally normal. All three of mine did this. Caleb just started a week ago and it's adorable but very messy... he sometimes misses his hands altogether in the attempt.

I don't quite remember when mine started clapping.. maybe 9-10 months old? but I do know that they didn't do it correctly at first ^_^ It was cute either way. Now when they clap it's still not - loud. But they do it right ;)

ours were close to a year. I noticed it in church, and it was even at an appropriate time - so cute!

Ours started clapping about 13 months real age and 11 months adjusted age. How old are your boys? It took them maybe a week to actually start making noise when they clap, but now they think it's the best thing ever. We also had to pry their hands apart so they clapped with open hands instead of fists. I would say to give it a week or so. As children practice a new skill, they always get better at it.

Ours are 13 months real age, 12 months adjusted age. No prying apart, they're just kinda clumsy with it ;)

Yup, I would say mine got the hang of it around 13 months...before they would just put their hands together but not make any sound.
