Our oldest DS, Lennon, started walking everywhere pretty much as soon as he learned how to walk. He rarely crawled. Not so with Finley. Finley took his first 5 steps about 3 weeks ago - and now at random times during they day he will walk 5, 10, or even 20 steps. But most often, he crawls where he wants to go! So, did anyone else have little guys/girls that still preferred to crawl even when they could walk? When did they start walking more than crawling?

    Thanks!

Once DS figured out the walking bit, that's what he preferred to do and went straight to it. DD on the other hand was unsure of herself. It took a little while for her to start walking more than crawling and then when she did walk it was usually very slow. (She's still slower than her brother. She doesn't really like to run unless it's away from me when she's being bad. )

I guess it was around a month or so before she would choose to walk instead of crawl even for short distances.

When my older DD started walking at 10 months she never reverted back to crawling. She was off!!! However, with the boys they took steps and then really didnt get consistent for another month or so. It was incredibly frustrating. I wanted them to walk so bad. I knew it would be so much easier on my back. And they eventually decided that walking was better.

Of my three, Kevan took the longest, and I'd say it was at least a couple months between first steps and consistent walking.

My Dd didn't even stand before she walked and when she did at 11 months she never looked back. My boys on the other and are taking FOREVER. Colin took his first steps at 9 months but is just now walking more then crawling. He still will crawl when he wants to get somewhere faster. Mitchell took his first steps at 10 months and is still not doing anymore than a few steps here or there. He much rather crawl :unknw:

Jackson took about a month or so before he was really confident with his walking. Jacob took forever to start walking, but once he did, he just suddenly started walking. It's so interesting how each child does it differently! :)

ours took a few little steps 3 weeks ago and our boy is taking more now, but they both still crawl mainly. I figure its just a matter of time. Maybe they're waiting to make it official on their 1st birthday on Thursday!

My oldest DD started walking at 9 months. The twins started at 13 months. Once all 3 of mine started taking steps, they never went back to crawling.

Thanks, everyone! I'm just chomping at the bit to have at least 1 walker, so when we go outside I won't have to worry (too much) about at least one of them crawling on the driveway and burning their hands due to the increasingly warmer weather.

Just when they were starting to really crawl all over and explore the yard and driveway, the warm weather (highs in the 80s, should be mid-60's!) hits and I have to worry about them burning the palms of their hands on the driveway.

Jori, I love the name of your oldest DS! When DD started walking it took her about a week to go from crawling to mainly walking. DS it took longer. I would say he started taking steps around 12 months but did not mainly walk until 14 months.

It seemed like forever. I think it is a motivation/confidence thing.

One of them went from walking to it being his whole method of transportation to running in about a month and a half. That was over 5 months ago. His brother has been taking steps for over a month now, but still crawls everywhere. It's like he doesn't realize he can get there by walking. He only seems to walk when he is already standing up and then gets so excited about something else that he forgets to sit down and crawl over there. But he does seem to slowly be walking more and more so maybe there is hope at the end of the tunnel soon...
