When you go from crib to bed...

I was looking at my girls sleeping last night and noticing how they are all over the place in their cribs. They wear sleep sacks and they each have a blankie in the crib, but they sleep exclusively on top of the blankies.

It made me wonder about moving to big kid beds -- will they have to learn how to sleep under the covers, with their heads consistently at one end? Or can I just give them a fitted sheet and a blankie, and keep using the sleep sacks (as long as they still fit)? Also, when do they start using a pillow? They don't seem to need or want one right now.

We're not planning on this transition for at least a year, and I know a lot can change -- just curious what others have done.

Mine have pretty much always used a pillow, but if they hadnt, I would have given them one when they moved into big beds...

To answer your question, they dont stay covered or even keep there head at one end all the time! LOL Its funny to check on them and see where they are now! LOL!

If its cold I just make sure they are in warm jammies.

Also, if they are in big beds, wouldnt they trip if they got out of bed in a sleep sack?

Mine started using pillows once we transitioned them to toddler beds. They were 2 years old. We wanted to keep them in their cribs longer but they started climbing out...so to avoid a broken bone, we put them in beds. They are all over the place in their beds and never stay under the covers. I agree with the pp, dress them warmly when it is cold. We always have our air on so mine are always dressed warm. Hope this helps...Good luck. :)

Hannah does, and will stay in one spot all night, sleeping just like a big kid. Ben is all over the place and sleeps wherever he can. Although we have a comfortor, blanket, sheets, and a pillow for him, he rarely uses any of it, except for the pillow to fall asleep. He doesn't even seem too phased by it!

They'd pretty much started sleeping in one place even while they were in their cribs, but I think even moreso now in the beds.

They can actually walk in them pretty well (they look like mermaids :) ), but you're right, they'd probably have a hard time actually getting down off the bed. I hadn't thought of that.... Oh well, who knows how they'll be sleeping in a year (assuming we make it that long)! Maybe they'll even be under the blankets by that time.

They sleep in their beds, but we joke here that both girls seem to be allergic to blankets.
They start the night with pillows and blankets, but ususally kick them off and don't keep them on ever/ We just have to dress them in temperature appropriate PJ's.

We just switched to toddler beds with in the last 2 weeks or so and no they do not stay covered with their blankets. they usually ball them up and lay on top of them. I also have not given them pillows yet as I see no need for them at this time. They are all over the bed and sometimes when i go to check on them they are sleeping on the floor.
