When will your dr schedule induction/c-section

My doctor has said all along that if I make it that far, we will have a scheduled induction or c-section (depending on the babies' positions) at 37 weeks. A friend told me that I should wait until 38 weeks. So, I was wondering when other people's doctors do this for twins.

I'm sort of hesitant to ask about it because I feel like I'm tempting fate...I never thought I would make it this far (I've been on bedrest for 10 weeks), let alone to 37 weeks. Probably it will not even be an issue for me...but I guess you never know.

  3. I'm being induced this Friday...35 weeks 1 day...if my amnio on Thursday reveals developed lungs on both my boys. I've been in the hospital on bedrest w/ preeclampsia dilated to 4 cm since the beginning of June. Docs say if their lungs are mature there is really no reason to keep them in any longer--however, I do have that risk of preeclampsia acting up! Before preeclampsia was diagnosed, docs told me I'd be waiting til 37 weeks and being induced.

I get different answers depending on which doctor in the practice I see.
Some say 38 and some say 39 or 40 , yikes I really can't imagine going that far, my skin is going to rip!! Unfortunately the doc who said 38 is on vacaction until I am 38w 5d, so by the time I see her and then schedule the induction it will be at least 39.
    Good luck

Mine said 38 and seemed firm on not a day sooner. I went in Monday at 35wk 4 days and we talked about labor signs and scheduling a c-sec. He wasn't concered about scheduling it till next Tue when I come in ( I think he doesn't really think Ill make it to 38 anyway). Anyway if I don't go by then he will schedule for 37-38weeks sometime. So Im thinking since babies are growing well and doing well hes not too worried about going a few days earlier. I think some of it has to do w/ how you and babies are doing and Drs past experiences w/ twin delivery.

Mine was scheduled at 38 weks 2 days. At 37 weeks, I asked if we could do it sooner. His response was that I wanted to wait because babies born later tend to sleep better! My boys proved him wrong!!!!!!!

My Dr will not induce me until 39 weeks!!! I have had a pretty uneventful pregnancy, well for the babies at least. He seems to think i might make it.. ahhhh

My doctor induces between 37 and 38 weeks. I am 38 weeks TOMORROW and will be induced. We are trying a vaginal delivery with baby A head down and baby B breech - I will let you know how it goes.

My docs said 36-37 weeks. They said I will be too uncomfortable after that point. They will do an amnio to see if the lungs are okay then they will put me in.

  14. 37-38 weeks for me too. I'll telly ou, I'm shooting for 36 weeks. I'm less than 5 feet and my DH is well over 6 feet. My babies are huge. There's just no way I could hold out as long as the docs say.

My doc and I never spoke about it but when I got my notes after I delivered (I wanted to have all my records when I became an Expecting mod because I thought it might help) I saw he wrote down, if she does not deliver by 38 weeks we will discuss setting a date for 39 weeks, yup 39 weeks.

The hospital I delivered at would not allow induction/scheduled section for twins in an "uneventful" pregnancy until 38 weeks. My OB was on duty at 37 weeks 6 days and they would not budge one day for me, so I had to have another OB and went in at 38 weeks to be induced with one of his colleagues. Didn't want to wait 6 extra days for him to be on duty again! Of course, they would have done it sooner if there had been indications of a medical neeed to do so.

My hospital won't do it before 38 weeks unless there are medical issues. I was 38w2d because 38 weeks was actually the Sat after Thanksgiving and my doc was on call that Monday. I had severe swelling and was at risk for developing blood clots although leg u/s at 36 and 37 weeks were fine.

Being uncomfortable is not an issue (and I was really uncomfortable), I think 38 weeks is realistic. 37 weeks can be OK, but sometimes the twins turn out to be a lot smaller than expected, and even though their lungs may be OK, there could be other issues like feeding and body temperature. If the babies are doing well, hang in there, it will be worth it.

Mine said 36-38 weeks. I don't know what factors they will take in consideration of date. My doctor has been on maternity leave, I will ask at next appt.

I've heard other people say that there doctor will not stop labor at 34 weeks. Has anyone heard this?

My doctor will not aggressively (mag.) stop labor at 35 weeks, but will try to prevent it until at least 36. I was in L&D at 35w 2d with contractions and they stopped my labor with Terbutaline just to try to get me to 36 weeks. It's a week later and I'm still here. :)
