When will they stop pooping in the tub/on the floor?

I feel like other people are completely stunned and shocked when their kid poops in the tub or on the floor after the bath. For me, it's a common thing. I would say at least 75% of the time, someone either poops in the tub, or on the floor shortly after the bath. They don't always poop at that time of day (6:30ish) either, and it happens even if I vary their bath time. Tonight I saw Kate was working on it, so I took her out of the tub and offered her the potty. She sat on it, got up, and went and did her deed in the hallway. They are only 19 months so I am not expecting them to actually potty train at this point, but it sure would be nice to not clean up poop all the time. It's not like I let them run around naked for a long time, either - it usually happens very quickly after the bath, and often I pick the wrong baby to diaper first. There's no rhyme or reason to it!

And I haven't even talked about the pee. One day my babysitter stuck around to see their bath, and afterwards there were 3 pee puddles and a poop to clean up. I swear, that is one 21-year-old who is never having sex again.

    Please someone commiserate with me!

I am actually shocked that we haven't had one pooping incident in the tub! I've been waiting for it, but I guess mine tend to poop more in the AM. I feel for you though!

Oh I will gladly commisserate with you. My Hannah keeps pooping in the tub, over and over again, and then afterward on the floor. It's like they save a couple terds for later just to make sure she gets both areas. It drives me nuts cause every time there is soooo much clean up. Ewww!

    ok i
'll share a short but embarrising story with you. when my oldest dd were 4 and 2 we went to the beach. mind you i was younger and thinner! not to mention that we went to the cute beach where everyone wears bikinis and has drinks in the sun, ok, you get the point. so i was prepared, i brought my baby pool and set myself up real nice. well after about an hour of set up we finally got the kids inthe baby pool and sat down. i swear to you, 5 minutes later my 4 year old stands up and as loud as she possibly could yelled "ewewwwweee, Carissa pooped in the pool" now i ask you, could it have been worse? :rotflmbo:

I posted about tub pooping not long ago... and it's still going on. Well, actually, it's been a few weeks now... but that's only because they get a five minute bath and I immediately put them straight into diapers. Tub pooping is probably the thing that makes me most nuts. Maybe it's because I then have to clean the million tub toys. Or maybe it's because it's at the very end of the day. My only advice is what a few other women suggested... bath them as quickly as possible and get them out and dressed. I've had several nights that DD poops as soon as I get her dressed, but that's fine with me. Changing an extra diaper is much easier than cleaning a poopy tub.

Hang in there... I feel your pain!!!!

I too posted about this very same thing. They freak out too everytime someone poops in the tub and come flying over the side of it like I've never seen a toddler move! No one has done their business on the floor yet. I guess I should find some wood to knock on though. I too agree with the comment, it must be at the end of the day and there's yet another thing now I have to do. I have changed their schedule around a bit and wait a little after feeding them to put them in the tub. Lately, it seems to have helped, but I've probably just been lucky. You said it doesn't seem to help if you change your schedule around. I could suggest as one is in the tub, get the other out and get her ready for bed right there in the bathroom. Our contertop is big enough I put one on the counter and get her ready while the other is still in the tub waiting to get out. I know at our last house, I just would sit on the bathroom floor and get her ready. Maybe that's why we haven't had any incidents on the floor.? I try to take out all their bath toys but like one or two when I get one out just in case she does go, I'm not cleaning ALL the toys. I guess I'd rather them poop in the tub, easier to clean for me.
I do feel your pain. I'm so glad I've grown up and don't poop in the tub or on the floor anymore. One of these days they will too, just hope it happens in the next few months as opposed to the next few years! Good luck.

I actually never experienced my girls pooping in the tub (thankfully) but your comment about your babysitter cracked me up. Thanks for the laugh!

OK, at least yours have the sense to be horrified! Mine seriously would just play with it or ignore it, I think. Unfortunately, we have a teeny tiny bathroom upstairs. There are maybe 4-5 square feet of floor space, and it's arranged in a narrow aisle. It suuuuuuhucks. Too hard to get them dressed in there, or even do diapers unless I am very ingenious and I am not that ingenious. :p

For those of you have tub poopers, do they stand up to do it? Mine are very obvious - they stand up and start grunting and concentrating. At least it's not a sneak attack from down under, but I usually don't move quickly enough to catch it. One time I did when Kate was on the rug in their room. I had a wipe in my hand because I was cleaning up Lilly who had just peed, so I just stuck my hand with the wipe under Kate's butt. Boy was I glad for that wipe. Because I know I'd have done it anyway - easier to wash the hand than clean the rug.

When I pictured life with kids, I sure never imagined it would be this weird!!

If that's the only time they do it, then I'll trade! ;)

You see, we don't like to poop/pee in diapers around here. No, instead they wait until I'm preparing a meal or trying to put a load of laundry in to strip naked and go on the livingroom carpet or tile floor (which is the most fun for pee since they can then run through the puddle and splash it around). Poop is used for painting toys, walls, each other, etc. Most often, though, pooping is done at the end of naptime so that they can quietly paint their sheets until the giggles strike leading to loud proclamations of, "Peeeeeewwww" and "Blech -- poopy" and mommy comes running in to spoil the fun. I don't know what I'd do without a carpet shampoo machine or if they weren't perfectly thrilled to take a quick shower. There are many days they go through several outfits each. I believe our record so far is 5 each for clothes and as many baths.

Yes, they've used the toilet for both poop and pee but they very rarely ask to use the potty and they often will sit on the potty and do nothing while whining "all done, down" only to make a mess minutes later. It's a long road to underpants for us.

Oh no, how awful! I have no good advice because we've managed to avoid that...mine tend to be morning poopers. But DH normally does their baths, and if they start that up he'll hand the reins back over to me for sure. :)

I know it's not funny if you are living it, but this thread made my day! My sister used to do that to me when I was little. My Mom would say, the warm water relaxes her! To this day my brother and I still get on her for it. I hope my twins take after their Mom and Uncle and not their warm water relaxed Aunt!

Okay, I'm sorry I didn't have time to read the replies, but can you postpone the bath after dinner until they crap?

My boys are like clockwork when it comes to defecation...usually within 15-minutes (generally more like 5-minutes) from finishing a meal. So, I just wait out the turds. ;) THis is ESPECIALLY true if we haven't yet crapped for the day, or have only crapped once. I have only had one poop incident - it was a doozy (but aren't they all?) - at about 16 months.
