i realized a week or two ago that c&a NEVER refer to each other, or themselves, by name. is that odd? they say some of their friends' names, and they respond to their own and each others' names (e.g., they know when i am talking to them, or if i tell one to give the other something they do). they also love to sing the signing times song about family and point to themselves during the "me, me, me" part (so cute!).

so when can i expect them to use their names?

I have no idea! We're about at the same place. Bea will sign "A" for Ainsley, we've been signing their initials as their sign. Ainsley still isn't really talking though, but Bea just started so maybe she will say a name soon? She just said "Dada" while she was signing it.

Their names were two of their first words, for both of them. I would say around 20 months here.

I think this must've happened around 18 or 20 months...when their language got a little more developed..but they have a big sister who constantly uses their names... Now at 23 months they actually tattle- tale on each other...it's hysterical..they try to get each other in trouble!

Our still don't say each others names. I think it has to do with them having a hard time saying R and S. But they point to each other when you ask them who they are.

I would say mine started saying each other's names around 18 months. In the beginning they referred to each other as "sissy" and "bubba" because those kind of became their names we refer to them as. But lately they have been saying their actual names. Athough many times in the early morning and I can still hear Blake saying, "sissy, sissy, sissy... wake up!" [IMG] It totally melts my heart!

I would say it was probably around 19-20 months. Meghan started first by calling him Nolie and he followed a couple of weeks behind and calls her Meggie.

Mine just started about 6 weeks ago. Kenna calls Mitchell "bro-bro", so I count that. She calls for him all the time. In the early morning I hear her say "bro-bro...bro bro...shhh..sleeping". Too sweet. Mitchell says Kenna but I don't know if anyone else would recognize it as that but I do.

22 months here and they don't even try to say each others' names...of course most of their speech is in their own language which sounds like gibberish to me, so maybe they are saying it and I just don't understand! [IMG]

ok, that makes me feel a bit better that many of you said around 20 months - hopefully it will happen soon!

Kelly, that's a good idea about signing their initials - maybe we'll try that.

    thanks!

About 19 months, but they only say Paige. They can't say Peyton yet, so both girls refer to each other as Paige.

This milestone should be happening in the next few months.
Alexis has been saying Rachel's name for a few months. and only recently saying her own name, but still doesn't know the answer to the question what's your name?
Rachel calls herself and Alexis, Sissy. that's my fault I guess since that's usually what I refer to them as.

As long as everyone is consistent in using their names, you can expect them to catch on pretty quick. just try using their names ALOT. I have a worksheet on this, if I find it I will PT you with the contents.

Around 15 months, Zayne was calling McAuley by his nickname that I taught her - "Bubba". My dh hated that, so he started to tell her to say "McAuley" at around 20 months she finally started saying "'Cauley" which was good enough for me.
Less than a month ago, McAuley (who says very little to begin with) finally said "Dayne" in kindda a sing-song voice when I was calling for Zayne.
McAuley does not say "Mommy", just "Daddy" (He really likes the letter D), while Zayne knows the names of nearly every family member!
Last week, when we were at my parent's house, Zayne was still sleeping in bed, but McAuley as awake and down with all the adults. After a while, he suddenly says "Dayne?" and starts looking around, trying to find her....it was so cute!

My girls have been saying each others name more and mor. So I would say around 20-21 months.
Two day Dani was napping on the couch, and Sydney was in the kitchen eating a cookie. All of a sudden, she looks over at Dani, and screams Dani Cookie.
Later on while we were playing with playdoo, when Dani would get upset, and we asked her what was wrong, her answer was Sydney.

I'm not sure when ours started.

At first Kelsey called Eske Gaga. I've heard him say Eske before but when he talked to her he said Gaga. Now he calls her Kiki ! [IMG]

Eske used to say Kelsey and now she says Kiki too !

Mine don't. They know who each other is, but tend to say brother "bro-oh". I blame myself -- I often will say to one "Where is your brother?" or "Give that to your brother." and so on.

Annika refers to Natalie as "sissy" or "nana."
Natalie hasn't called Annika anything yet. But she doesn't talk as much as Anni.
