When will they push their bedtime later than 6 p.m.?

My girls are almost 11 months old and have been going to bed at 6 p.m. since they were about 6 months old. I'm wondering when they will start to go to bed later. As they get older I find myself wishing they could stay up long enough to eat dinner with me and my husband, which would be around 6:30 or 7 p.m. If your kids went to bed early, when did they start to go to bed later?

    TIA.

Mine are 19 months and they go to be at 7pm which they done for about 1 year. I think when the clocks change in the spring or when they go to one nap - we are going to try to push their bedtime back to 7:30 or 8pm.

All the books say to go in 5 mins increments when changing their bedtime. We have tried many times and it has not worked for us yet. We are hoping it will work this time b/c they will 2 yrs old!

Mine are sixteen months and have always gone to bed at 6:30, but since we changed to one nap, it has actually gotten earlier. Now, I'm lucky if I can keep them up until 6[IMG]o. I really don't like it. We can't go out to eat or go to friend's houses or anything without messing up their schedule, which we don't do. I'm interested in your responses!

Mine are 14 months and are going to bed a tiny bit later than they used to -- they used to be down 6:30-6:45 and asleep by 7:00, but now it's more like down by 7, asleep by 7:15. I know that's not much later.... It wasn't so much because they seem less tired, as because we had to start feeding them a real dinner instead of just bottles & crackers. We don't get home from work/daycare till 5:45, so by the time we do dinner & the bedtime routine, it's usually almost 7.

In some ways I'm looking forward to them going down later, so we can have dinner with people or go to the park after work (in the summer) or whatever -- but it's also sooo nice to have all that adult time. Our friends whose kids go to bed at 8:30-9 are all jealous of us.

I would enjoy it while it lasts. As my girls have grown, the bedtime gets later and later. But it also depends on their wakeup time and how long they napped. I always and still do to this day, plan my bedtime when they wake. If they wake at 7am then bedtime is 7pm, exactly 12 hours. I want to make sure they get at least 12 hours of sleep a night. I would say that now my girls wake at 8 and go to bed at 8. They don't fall asleep right away but for the most part they do. They also take a 2 hour nap.
Your children will let you know closer to one or after when they don't need as much sleep, a nap gets dropped and bedtime will still need to be early. But their sleep habits change so much through the years. I never thought my girls would ever sleep till 8am or go to bed that late. We were pretty much a 7-7 schedule. So just know they will let you know when they are ready.
If you want to change your schedule, if you can, wake them later in the morning, like 7 and then put them to bed then. You can sort of do it day by day, letting them sleep later each day until you have a good 12 hour schedule for sleep. Good luck!

We were very early bedtime people and still are. It is JUST recently that the bedtime has moved intot he 6:30-7 range from the 5:30-6 range that we had going forever. Really I think you can shift whenever you want but to us a well rested toddler is a happy toddler.

Our boys are 22 months and they still sleep from 7pm-7am. This has been their schedule for over one year now. They nap 1.5 hrs from 12-1:30pm.

Mine slowely push theirs back, it started at bedtime at 7 but now is around 8-8:30 and they get up around 8-8:30 am and still take 2 naps on a good day. for about 3.5 hours total. If they got to bed earlier they wake up earlier but if they go to bed later they wake up either earlier than "normal or at normal.

Mine are in bed by 7:00 most nights, sometimes 6:30 if it was a bad nap day or they woke early. They have slowly moved to this time from 5:30 bedtime at 6 months. I started putting them to bed later when they started sleeping later, but they've been stuck at 7:00-7:00 days since about 10 months. It's fine with me, I like having them in bed early, and up early enough so DH can help in the morning.

Just a side note, DH and I went on a "date" Saturday, and we saw all these little kids (1-3 yrs approx) out at the restaurant. I was like, "shouldn't these kids be in bed?". I just can't picture taking ours out to dinner that late (7:00-9:00pm).

My girls were just impossible to keep up much past 6-6:30 until they were about a year old, and then when they were about 14 mos. old and the had the "spring forward" time change, I just rolled with it and they started staying up 'til more like 7-7:30. I think the greater amount of daylight helped this along. Now they go to bed anywere between 7-8pm depending on exactly what's going on that evening. The nice thing is that although they usually go to be on the earlier side of that equation, they now CAN stay up later for special events, etc. They used to just turn into screaming crank-monsters past their magic bedtime hour and it was NOT a good thing to keep them up past that!

My girls, from about 6 months to 12-13 months went to bed between 5:30-6:00. I moved them to one nap (in the afternoon) at around 14 months or so, and since that time, they have been going to bed between 6:30-7:00...they are almost 19 months old now.

Mine went to bed between 7-7:30 from the time they were 3 months old. Now only in the past few months have they started staying up until 8ish. That said, they rarely make it to 6 for dinner. This week is the first time that we have had a family dinner for 4 nights in a row, and that is because DH has been coming home by 5 5:30.

    Thanks for the responses.

They are usually awake by 6:30, sometimes a little bit earlier. Their first nap is between 8:30 and 9, usually closer to 8:30, and lasts about an hour and a half to two hours. They take a second nap after lunch, around 12:30 or 1, and this nap usually lasts two hours. Then they're in bed at 6, usually asleep within 10 or 15 minutes.

Wow, I guess mine stay up really late! When they were younger it was usually 8-8:30. Now they go down around 9:30 and get up between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Naps are getting less frequent, but once in a while I get an hour nap out of them betwee 3 and 4. For us this works because of my older kids, we have ball games that last till 8 some nights and Dh doesn't get home till 7 or 8 in the evenings.

Matt/Kenzie are 30 months, and have been going to bed since 6:30 and now just have started going to bed at 7pm, but my problem it that they get up at 6am since birth.

Mine are 22 months and they go to bed at 7pm which they've done since about 1 year. They actually don't fall asleep in their now til around 7:30 or 8 pm, but the story is on at 7 pm and straight to bed. I need that time!

They still want to eat dinner though by about 5:30 as they are starving to wait any longer.

I know you want them to be up a little later, but if they aren't experiencing sleep problems. . . I wouldn't mess w/ it.
They'll phase into needing a later sleep time soon, I promise!

    Hi~
Mine are 21 months and still go down between 6-7!!! They started about a year ago and do it to this day. We can sometimes keep them up until 7 but most days it is between 6-6:15 lol! I guess this summer will be the true test when the sun no longer goes down at 6!! LOL! They are so funny, as soon as dusk begins they just start whining and yawning!! [IMG]
Sorry, we shall see what happens in the future! [IMG]
