We tried starting a routine early on, but a proper routine didn't really start until they were 3 months old. My boys were 4 weeks early so 2 months corrected. I find that when we do stick to a routine, everyone is happier. Some days dont go as planned, but most do.

We started working in a routine based on their habits around 4 months old (the boys were 36 weekers). At that time they were stilling bfing about every 4 hours (at night...3 hours during the day) so we stuck with that. I didn't start stretching out night feedings until they were between 5-6 months and I just kind of followed their cues (mainly they weren't waking every 4 hours but maybe every 5...etc). I still got up once a night with them until they STTN at 8 months.

My kids are 10 weeks old right now (4 weeks adjusted) and we are just now trying to establish a little bit of a routine. I am trying to get them to bed between 6:30 and 7 and they are doing really well with it, only waking up once in the middle of the night. Their pediatrician said to wait until they are about 3 months old, but it has really helped me get a handle on everything with my kids and they seem a little bit happier. HTH!

I started trying a flexible routine about 3.5 months. By 4 months, I was trying harder to stick to it and we had a definite bedtime routine (and for naps, too). By 6 months, were there!

if they are going 3-4 hours I would say you are ready to start. Know it will take at least a week to get it started and kwno it won't always work but keep going, It makes the mom and babies so much happier.
