    Hi there!
I am using Avent bottles (formula feeding) and am wondering if anyone has any advice on when I need to switch to the Level 2 nipples??
My girls will be 5 weeks on Friday.
On the level 2 nipples it says '1+ mo', but I feel like it might be too soon?
Is it just a matter of trial & error or is there a 'best time' to switch?
    Any advice appreciated!

We use Dr Browns, so it might be different. But we didn't switch until around 6 months. I think that was the recommendation for Dr Browns. If it's a similiar sized hope, I can't imagine a 1 month old ready for it. But since it's a different brand, i'm not sure.

I switched at a month because my girls were barely eating two ounces and passing out, and eating no more. The faster nipples have helped- they don't wear out quite as fast. We had no problems switching.

We used Avent bottles. I didn't even know that they made nipples in different levels until my girls were almost 3 months old!!! My poor girls. NO wonder they ate every 2 hours!!! If I had just found this site sooner. Anyway, I finally knew my girls were ready because they kept falling asleep before finishing their bottle and/or it took FOREVER for them to finish the darn thing. They may at first kind of gag but after only a couple of times they re-figure out exactly how hard to suck so that the milk flows the way they want.

we tried stage 2 at 3 months and boys gaged and couldn't get it down fast enough so had to go back to the beginners.. i hate how long the boys take to drink it = 1hr is typical..... ahhh

We did at about three months, but now I think we might need to move up to the 3 holed nipples.

I switched them after a month to size 2 and it helped speed things up and then again at 3 months we went to size 3 and what a difference! The feedings are so much faster-they were getting so frustrated with the smaller nipples...good luck!

we switched to size 2 around 2.5 months. we use the avent bottles. they now take about 10 minutes to finish a 6 ounce bottle, and we had no problems tolerating the switch.

We use Dr. Brown's bottles and we switched at 2 months. The babies were gulping a lot of air and they were falling asleep while eating and it seems like switching to #2 nipples has helped them swallow less air and get more food out with less effort. They still only sleep 3 - 3.5 hours at a time at night, but before switching they would only go about 2 hours because they were eating less at their feedings.

we used the same bottle but the girls hated the vent air stage 2 nipples because they were y cut t... so we used the dr brown standard nipples (that fit vent air) which isj ust a single hole n they did wonderful n are done with bottels in just a few min ... but it is a trial kinda thing it all depends on the babies so give it a try see how it goes n hope for the best good luck

I was able to tell when to switch to faster nipple by whether or not milk pooled around his mouth and chin. If it did then I would stay with the stage one and if they are able to take it all in they go for stage 2. Good luck.

Thanks so much for the advice!!!
I might try the level 2 with our bigger girl & just see how it goes!
Here's hoping for quicker feeding times & better sleeping!!!! :)
